Liverpool are ready to acquire centre-backs in the upcoming transfer window. With uncertainty over several stars, there has been a host of names linked with a potential Anfield arrival in the off-season.

We could see Ibrahima Konate depart if he doesn’t sign a new contract while funds could be raised through the sales of Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah too.

Those three sales would leave the Reds a little light on centre-back options, with only Virgil van Dijk assured of his place in the squad next season.

With the Dutchman signed up until 2027, there is less of a need to replace Van Dijk in this transfer window but squad planning will continue regardless.

Van Dijk is 33 and will be 34 before the new season kicks off. Accordingly sporting director Richard Hughes WILL soon require a replacement for Van Dijk - if not immediately.

One option could be to add an eventual successor to the team this summer in anticipation of him taking over one day. That’s the pathway proposed for Jorrel Hato - the Ajax prodigy who can also play at left-back.

Other names linked have included Bournemouth's Dean Huijsen as well as Nico Schlotterbeck and Castello Lukeba - both of whom play in the Bundesliga.

Guehi for sale

But one name closer to home could well be available this summer - and at a significant discount too.

It opens up the prospect of an intriguing deal with Premier League mainstay Marc Guehi now set to leave Crystal Palace. Liverpool have long been linked with the England stopper, who only has one year left on his contract.

Tottenham attempted to acquire the Eagles’ captain during the January transfer window but their £70 million efforts were rebuffed.

But now Palace chairman Steve Parrish is ready to sanction a Guehi departure at a reduced rate. That’s according to a new report in TBR Football, which claims Palace could sell their skipper for only £40m.

Several clubs showing interest

“Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is expected to leave Selhurst Park this summer with just one year left on his contract,” the report reads.

“Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle United are among the clubs circling for Guehi’s signature.

“Palace expect to recoup £40m minimum for their captain this summer if not more.

“Bayern Munich and Juventus are both interested in Guehi.”

Guehi has played 41 times in all competitions for Palace this season, leading the south London side to the FA Cup final, where they will face Manchester City.
