Earlier in the campaign it appeared all but confirmed that the captain would put pen to paper on a new deal. Anfield Watch reported that barring a late hitch, we should see a new contract signed imminently.
However, in recent weeks, it appears Van Dijk’s future is hanging in the balance once again. Al Hilal are reported to have put forth a contract offer worth £16.7 million a year in order to entice the Netherlands defender to the Saudi Pro League.
Van Dijk spotted talking to PSG
And Van Dijk has got plenty of European suitors too with Barcelona and Real Madrid both reported to be interested in his services. Last week the Reds legend was spotted deep in conversation with Paris Saint-Germain’s top brass.
Liverpool had just been eliminated from the Champions League by PSG on penalties and Van Dijk took the opportunity to speak to director Luis Campos and club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
We now know the context of the conversation but PSG have also come forward to confirm the contents of the chat.
I don't understand why this video has caused such a huge controversy on social media,” Director of Press and Media Relations for the First Team, Pascal Ferre, told 365Scores.
“The conversation between Van Dijk, the club president, and also the sporting director was completely natural and spontaneous.

"Our president did not discuss any negotiations to sign the player, and everything rumored about this is false. "The discussion was friendly, and the club president has the utmost respect for Van Dijk."
That should clarify once and for all why Van Dijk was speaking to the Parisian duo but the wait for a new contract announcement goes on.
