Liverpool are facing an impending contract crisis with less than a week to go before Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk can speak to other clubs.

From January 1, 2025, the high-profile trio will be free to negotiate pre-contract agreements with interested overseas clubs ahead of a free transfer next summer.

The situation around all three remains shrouded in doubt.

For Salah, it’s known that the player’s preference IS to remain on Merseyside but there has been no official word as yet regarding a renewal.

For Trent, it looks like Real Madrid remain confident of landing him on a free transfer like they did for players like Antonio Rudiger and Kylian Mbappe in recent seasons.

And although Anfield Watch reported that Van Dijk will STAY at Anfield beyond the end of the season, the club still haven’t announced the renewal.

Real Madrid RULE OUT Van Dijk

Fans are concerned about all three players, who have again been among Liverpool’s top performers this season.

The club may be helpless to prevent Alexander-Arnold from heading to the Bernabeu but there is some welcome transfer news on the Van Dijk front from the same club.

Marca reports that Real Madrid have NO intention of attempting to take the 33-year-old Reds captain on a free transfer, meaning there is one less suitor in the picture for the Dutchman should he change his mind over staying.

The report states that Madrid would prefer a central defensive signing who can command the backline for years to come and given Van Dijk’s age he is not the man for the job.

Eder Militao and David Alaba could be cleared out in order to make way for new defensive signings but it’s unlikely Liverpool will have to face the prospect of both Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk leaving for the Bernabeu in the new year.

Now Reds fans around the world will be hoping for official word on contract renewals sooner rather than later so Arne Slot can plan for the future with his most important players in mind.
