There's a lot of hype around Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres. Liverpool want the player - but they do have a better option.

Viktor Gyokeres is firmly the flavour of the week. His hattrick against Manchester City on Tuesday night confirmed that - especially on the back of a four-goal outing at the weekend.

Liverpool will have been watching closely, too. Reports are that the big Swede is on their shortlist going forward.

Interestingly, he's apparently not on Manchester United's, despite them hiring Ruben Amorim from Sporting as their new boss. That's a mistake on their part - at least that's how we see it - and one Liverpool can take advantage of.

Gyokeres could fix a clear problem in the squad and the club must look at him. Only, we do think there's a better option here.

He's not the only hotshot in town.

Liverpool and Omar Marmoush

Liverpool have been linked with Omar Marmoush for a good few months now. There were summer links, in fact, which came before his goalscoring reached incredible levels this season.

Marmoush is the second-top goalscorer in the Bundesliga this season with 10. Only Harry Kane can beat that (11) and the Egyptian is growing a fantastic reputation. You can read our exclusive Q&A on that here.

He's looking like a great fit for Liverpool, too, and that's the important thing here. While Gyokeres is a man on fire, Marmoush is the one we believe can take the Reds to the next level.

He is, after all, the same kind of busy forward that's working so well right now. Gyokeres would add a new dimension - and a very exciting one - but Marmoush could slot right in, so to speak.

His ability to play out wide, coupled with his energy and finishing, makes him an ideal target for Liverpool. Very much in the mould of all the other forwards in the club.

That on its own makes it a very, very low-risk transfer. Gyokeres isn't quite that, given a change in style would likely follow.

But Marmoush is not only low-risk but the reward is sky-high. He's the one, ultimately, we hope Liverpool pursue next year.
