Liverpool are aiming high as they bow out of the Omar Marmoush race. The forward is now on the brink of moving to Manchester City.

Liverpool are certainly fans of Omar Marmoush. The Reds have been tracking him for some time now, particularly in 2024.

Marmoush was on the agenda even before this season - and then he really took off. The Egyptian is one of Europe's most in-form forwards, scoring 18 times in all competitions with another nine assists.

Really, there haven't been many at his level at all. Compatriot Mo Salah is one of the remarkably few to have actually outperformed him.

But it seems that the Reds won't sign him after all. It really did look like an almost formality at one stage, with all sorts of reports strongly linking Marmoush with a move in 2025.

Now, however, it appears he's off to Manchester City. Florian Plettenberg is the latest to have that line, claiming talks are now advanced between City and Eintracht Frankfurt.

It's a surprise move, to be fair. City have a plethora of problems right now but their biggest are defensive - we're not entirely sure why a move for a centre-forward is at the top of their agenda.

But City do as they please, of course, and right now they're looking for a Julian Alvarez replacement. Marmoush appears to be that.

As for Liverpool, we're not sure they'll be too disappointed. They've moved on to bigger things in their hunt for a striker.

Liverpool want Victor Osimhen

As Anfield Watch exclusively revealed, Liverpool have their eyes on Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian is a top target for the Reds if they move on Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguayan has a legitimate interest in him from the Saudi Pro League, again revealed by Anfield Watch.

And so Liverpool wants a striker profile different from Marmoush's. They're chasing a focal point - someone who doesn't necessarily need the ball in buildup and who confronts centre-backs with his physicality.

Essentially, they want Nunez but with better finishing.

Osimhen would certainly give them that, with the striker having been a revelation for Napoli. He fell out with the club last season, of course, which led to him moving on loan to Galatasaray.

Understandably, he's thrived in Turkey, scoring 10 times in 12 Super Lig fixtures. But he's not expected to stay.

Liverpool feel they could give him a home and it's Osimhen, rather than Marmoush, who is lined up to be the Reds' major transfer.
