Trent Alexander-Arnold WON'T replace Dani Carvajal after all
Liverpool appear resigned to the fact that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be leaving the club at the end of the season. The 26-year-old right-back is reaching the end of his current contract, which expires in summer 2025.
We could be living the last days of Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool career as Real Madrid prepare to roll out the red carpet for a high-profile free transfer.

The England international is expected to complete a money-spinning deal which will take him to the Spanish capital, bringing an end to a hugely successful spell in the Liverpool first team.
EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool ENTER Hugo Ekitike talks
The Reds have conquered England, Europe and the world with Alexander-Arnold as first-choice right-back, with fans taking the homegrown hero to their hearts.
However there is a certain amount of ill feeling currently being shown towards Alexander-Arnold over his impending switch. Fans are dismayed at how the move is being handled, calling for greater transparency from the full-back and his entourage.
But will there even be a place for Alexander-Arnold in the Real Madrid line-up at his preferred position should he move?
Will Trent dislodge Carvajal?
Current Madrid first-choice Dani Carvajal is expected back from injury before the end of the season and, with one year further on his contract, is in no mood to give up his starting berth.
And according to Mundo Maldini, we could see a situation where Trent actually spends a year in the team ALONGSIDE his rival for the right-back spot.
It’s been suggested that Carvajal will retain his No2 spot for next season with Trent featuring inside or, perhaps, in defensive midfield.
“He's a full-back with a very specific and almost unique style of being a right-back, with a spectacular [right] foot and a way of taking free kicks that will benefit Real Madrid very well because there isn't a preferred set-piece taker, so to speak, to do that,” the video states.
Trent tipped to eventually replace Carvajal
“Real Madrid is not a team where full-backs are inverted. We'll see how a right-back with these characteristics fits into Real Madrid's scheme.
“Defensively he's not the best in the world. But he brings you many more things than he doesn't bring you.
“Is he coming to replace Carvajal or to complement Carvajal?
“I think he's coming to complement him and I do believe that in the long term, the medium to long term, he can end up replacing him when Carvajal doesn't have much more to give.”
So what can we expect from Trent's move to Madrid? Less of an onus on defending, a more "inverted" position and responsibility over set-pieces.

We could see him line up as third centre-back, if Carlo Ancelotti or whoever succeeds him decides to switch it up. Otherwise, he could line up as an additional central midfielder, or else in front of Carvajal at right midfield.
