Trent Alexander-Arnold's MEGA salary
Liverpool's financial position is currently being stretched as the club attempts to convince three major players to extend their contracts.
Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all set to depart the club unless the expiry date of the current deals is moved with the agreement of fresh terms to prolong their stay on Merseyside.

However, the players know where they stand in terms of their importance to Liverpool and simply committing to extending their contracts with the current terms is not necessarily going to be enough to convince them to stay.

For Van Dijk and Salah - who are aging gracefully - an extra few more years stay on the same pay or a minimal pay cut might be a tempting offer, but for Trent - who is only just entering the peak years of his career - a substantial pay-rise would be in order.
According to the latest reports, Real Madrid are willing to offer him the financial terms he desires.
Trent to become Madrid's third-highest earner
The Spanish giants' interest in Trent has been well-documented over a substantial period of time now, as they attempt to steal him from his boyhood club, taking advantage of the contract situation that he is in.
When June rolls around, the English right-back will become a free agent, with the ability to agree a move to any club without needing Liverpool's consent for a deal to be met.
As such, in not having to pay a transfer fee for one of the world's most talented players, and while in need of a new right-back, a transfer for Trent to Madrid seems to be written in the stars.
Liverpool have to re-jig their financial position if they are in order to afford any of the contract extensions, whereas Los Blancos can put all of their finances into giving Trent a deal that he cannot ignore.
According to El Gol Digital, the full-back is expected to be given a €10 million a year contract, which would be in net terms - so, after tax and other deductions.
As such, the Telegraph's recent estimation of a £400,000 a week contract, which would be a significant pay rise for him, looks accurate. His salary will increase by more than double his Liverpool wages, which are currently at £180,000 a week.
Per Capology, a reliable source for information regarding player contracts, the weekly salary he would receive at Madrid would put him at around third in their wage list, sitting alongside high-calibre players such as David Alaba, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham.

While it might well be that Trent already has his heart set on a move to Spain, he might have no other option than to leave Liverpool as the Reds will not be able to compete with the wage structure that Madrid are reportedly able to offer him.
