Trent - You are about to make the mistake of your LIFE

Trent Alexander-Arnold was front and centre of Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning party on Sunday at Anfield.

Five years on from his first-ever title triumph, this time the right-back was able to celebrate with the adoring public inside the ground.

It made it feel all the more special; players and fans united in jubilation at last after the Covid-affected victory just a few years ago.

We were treated to the sight of Trent dancing a jig in front of the Klop, soaking up the adulation as the Reds’ faithful rained down You’ll Never Walk Alone on the players and staff.

Before the game there was a carnival atmosphere.

The squad inched forward towards Anfield on the team coach. Thousands of fans, flares in hand, songs in their throats, lined the way. It felt less like Liverpool were about to play a competitive fixture and more like a coronation. And so it proved to be.

“How can Trent consider walking away from this?” Peter Drury said on Sky Sports commentary. He nailed it.

This is what players work all their professional lives for - to savour the magical atmosphere that comes with winning.

Liverpool look set to embark on another successful run; comfortably the best team in England and not a million miles off the standards set by Paris Saint-Germain in Europe.

Any player in his peak could be assured - reasonably - of a few more titles to come. For Trent and Curtis Jones - homegrown, hometown boys - they get to do so among their own people.

What greater privilege is there?

How can Trent leave this for Real Madrid?

And yet, Trent is overwhelmingly likely to decide that THIS is not for him. He’s about to throw his lot in with Real Madrid. There are circumstances in which this is an understandable decision.

If Liverpool were adrift of the prizes - and Real primed to win them - it’s inevitable that the best players would seek to maximise their honours at the best club available to them.

But that’s not the case here.

Not only is Trent chucking his Liverpool legacy, he’s moving to an inferior team. And, crucially, one with a fan base that will never love nor respect him the way Liverpool fans would.

Real Madrid - by their standards are a bit of a shambles. OK, they have won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup this season. Well done.

But they are FOUR points off Barcelona at the top of the Spanish league table. They were beaten by the Catalans in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday. And Arsenal put them out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stages.

The whole club is engulfed in crisis; Carlo Ancelotti is about to leave but it looks like they will have a caretaker manager for the upcoming Club World Cup.

The ending to the cup final was a bonafide disgrace - with Antonio Rudiger, Jude Bellingham and others letting themselves down. The run-up to the game was also overshadowed by the appalling behaviour shown by the club to Spanish referees.

Real Madrid is a circus

They have become a worse team after signing Kylian Mbappe and, with the Frenchman signed up until 2029, next year is going to bear witness to another manager trying to make parts fit that don’t.

It’s a circus.

Not only that but Trent is going to have to hit the ground running. Right-back has been an issue of concern all season long - with Dani Carvajal injured and Lucas Vazquez incapable of properly replacing him.

Coming in on a superstar salary, Trent is going to have to be a leader straightaway and God help him if he puts a foot wrong. Those Madrid fans are unforgiving. And that’s before we get to their conspiratorial media.

If things don’t start well - then it won’t be long before the knives are out.

Yes, Trent WILL get a pay rise. It’s been reported he could double his Liverpool wages and bank a hefty signing-on fee to boot. He may soon be asking himself if it’s worth it.

There’s more to life than money and if that is the sole motivation for his decision then he might be inclined to think again. Imagine himself one year down the line, with a damaged reputation and Real desperately trying to get him off the wage bill.

So Trent, think carefully about what comes next. Think about your chat with John W. Henry on Sunday. Think about what your teammate Cody Gakpo said after the game - that he was hopeful you would stay.

You could be about to make the mistake of your life. More trophies, more glory at Anfield?

Or the uncertainty and chaos that comes with moving to Madrid.
