Liverpool Alexander-Arnold boost as rival right-back talks up Real Madrid move

Liverpool have started the season brilliantly and look ready to compete under new head coach Arne Slot.

The Reds are currently top of the table and have won nine of their opening 10 games in all competitions this campaign.

All of this early season success has been somewhat overshadowed by the ongoing saga surrounding the contracts of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

The trio are all out of contract at the end of the season and there are many suitors for all three players, but Liverpool may have just been handed a boost in their negotiations with Alexander-Arnold.

Pedro Porro talks up Real Madrid move

The greatest interest in Alexander-Arnold is reportedly coming from Real Madrid, who could accelerate their interest now that right-back Dani Carvajal is injured.

Trent has offered some cryptic updates on his future but the Reds may have been handed a boost because Tottenham’s right-back Pedro Porro has been talking up a move to Los Blancos whilst on international duty in Spain.

Speaking to Relevo, Porro revealed his elation at interest from Real Madrid, saying:

“It fills you with excitement, doesn't it? You have to stay focused on your work, but, well, if Real Madrid is interested in you, it’s because you’re doing things right.”

When asked if he thinks he would be ready to make the jump to Madrid, the Spaniard replied: “If I get the opportunity to take that leap tomorrow, I will be prepared for that.”

These comments are undeniably a boost for Liverpool, who will be hoping Real Madrid buy Porro and end their interest in Alexander-Arnold.

Trent’s contract situation at Liverpool

As things stand Trent will be free to leave Liverpool on a free transfer once his contract expires in June.

Reports suggest that remaining in Merseyside is the 26-year-old’s priority and that negotiations are set to take place to keep the fullback at Anfield, but little progress appears to have been made on an extension.

Although some pundits feel as though the Reds could get by without Alexander-Arnold, his influence on the team is apparent.

At just 26 Trent is already the Reds' vice-captain and is a huge part of the first team. Despite an apparent bust-up earlier in the season, Trent appears to remain a key feature in Slot’s Liverpool plans.

Liverpool supporters will be hopeful that Porro makes a move to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and that Los Blancos end their interest in Alexander-Arnold so that the 26-year-old can extend his stay at Anfield for years to come.
