Liverpool could lose a major player - if their sudden interest in an England star is anything to go by. The Reds are preparing.

Liverpool could face a series of exits in 2025. The biggest ones are contract-related, of course.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk will all leave the club on June 30th as things stand. The three most expensive contracts at the club expire at the same time and the club aren't exactly in a rush to renew them.

But they're far from the only players linked with exits. There are doubts over the likes of Wataru Endo and Federico Chiesa. Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez have been touted to sign elsewhere, too, while Joe Gomez and Caoimhin Kelleher each came close to departing in 2024.

And that's what we're focusing on here because the pair of them, along with Alexander-Arnold, create an extra problem for Liverpool. They're all senior homegrown players and the Reds must meet a quota on those.

Losing three all at once would create a major gap in the squad and it's not entirely obvious who could step up from the academy to replace them. And that explains Liverpool's sudden interest elsewhere.

Liverpool chase Morgan Gibbs-White

Liverpool are now consistently linked with Morgan Gibbs-White. The most recent report comes from the Daily Mail, who claim the Reds like him a lot.

And it makes sense. Liverpool know their replacements for the homegrown trio don't necessarily need to be in the same positions.

Gibbs-White could replace one on the quota without replacing him in the XI. Alexander-Arnold, for instance, has Conor Bradley as a successor.

The Northern Irishman also counts as homegrown, meaning 'promoting' him doesn't change anything. He's already in the squad and counts towards the minimum.

Signing Gibbs-White, or another English-developed player, would allow flexibility at right-back if the Reds do need to replace Alexander-Arnold. They could sign anyone, essentially, regardless of where they developed.

But they would need to sign more somewhere. If three do leave, three homegrown talents must arrive.

Gibbs-White could just be the start.
