Liverpool want world-class rebel to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold
Trent Alexander-Arnold entered the winter transfer market under a cloud of uncertainty.
Despite signing off from 2024 with a goal for Liverpool against West Ham, it wasn’t long before Real Madrid were pestering the club about signing him in January.

Los Blancos were only prepared to offer an insultingly low sum in order to secure Trent this winter with Dani Carvajal injured and Carlo Ancelotti requiring a top-quality replacement.
The Spanish capital side are expected to approach the 26-year-old directly about a pre-contract agreement before the end of the season.
And if sporting director Richard Hughes fails to tie down the England defender for the long term, then a replacement will need to be sourced.
Liverpool’s reported list of potential right-back recruits is gathering pace. Jeremie Frimpong, Vanderson, Amar Dedic and Lutsharel Geertruida are among the names listed as Trent’s successors.
Kimmich NAMED as Liverpool target
And now another name has emerged on the list with Bayern Munich contract rebel Joshua Kimmich being named as a Liverpool target.
The Reds were linked with the Bayern star extensively last year with his contract running down and the club seeking to avoid losing him on a free. He ultimately stayed put but like Alexander-Arnold he is out of contract this summer.
And now BILD Head of Football Christian Falk has confirmed that the Germany international is very much in Liverpool’s thoughts. “Liverpool are considering signing of Joshua Kimmich,” Falk wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Kimmich is a free agent in summer. Bayern is in talks with Kimmich for a new contract.”
Kimmich also a world-class midfielder
Kimmich is outside the usual age range for Liverpool targets at 29 but comes with a world-class pedigree both at right-back and in central midfield. He could provide competition and cover for Ryan Gravenberch as well as becoming first-choice on the right side of the Reds’ defence.
Kimmich has had disputes with his club over his best position but has recently reverted to right-back. Whether he would play right-back at his next club remains to be seen.
But Liverpool’s interest with Trent’s contract ticking down might well suggest Arne Slot and Richard Hughes have identified the man to become Liverpool’s next right-back.
