Fabrizio Romano has quietly dropped a new hint in the Trent Alexander-Arnold saga. Liverpool could yet lose the defender.

Liverpool will lose Trent Alexander-Arnold as things stand. The Scouser's contract expires at the end of the season and he's yet to sign a new one.

Perhaps tellingly, there hasn't even been much talk about a new contract. Both Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk, two players in similar situations, have openly talked about renewing with Liverpool.

Both give the impression that they want to, in fact. Liverpool have a hangup about their respective ages but and that's considered to be the sticking point, rather than any lack of desire from either side about renewing.

Alexander-Arnold, though, doesn't discuss his contract. There isn't thought to be any major hangup at Liverpool about it, either - there just isn't anything to report.

It makes it seem more and more likely that Alexander-Arnold will indeed leave Liverpool. Real Madrid are heavily interested in his signing and won't pass up the opportunity to sign him for free this summer.

And a little hint from Fabrizio Romano suggests that may well happen soon.

Fabrizio Romano's hint

Fabrizio Romano first tweeted that Real Madrid hoped to sign Alexander-Arnold back in March 2024. This was a few months before he entered the final year of his contract.

And for unclear reasons, Romano has now gone back and pinned that tweet to the top of his Twitter page.

At the time of writing, it's still his pinned tweet.

Now, Romano usually uses his pinned tweet as a bit of a showcase. It's always the rumour he got right or the major new he broke.

So the fact he's gone for the initial report of Real Madrid's interest in Alexander-Arnold suggests he's suddenly feeling extra confident about it.

Cadena SER backs this up. They're reporting that Madrid now talk about the Scouser with certainty. A four-year contract has been verbally agreed to.

It appears this one may be close and certain journalists - those you'd trust to break the big news - feel it's on the brink of being closed. Liverpool are almost certainly losing Alexander-Arnold, it seems.

I saw one of the covers for eafc 25 and it had Trent wearing an LFC kit and the statement everything for the club. Surely Trent would have to give consent before anyone could use any graphics featuring him. Why would he be in a Liverpool kit if he's going? I hope it means he's going to stay 🤞🏽

I think the consensus is, we want Virgil and Mo to be priority. Trent isn't as important as he and the media think. We'd rather stop leaking goals than have him lose possession 20 times a game and get skinned by anyone with pace.
