The fullback’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and, although talks are reportedly underway for an extension, his future in Merseyside has never been less certain.

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for the Anfield star, who has been one of the world’s best in his position for over half a decade.

Despite impressive form this season, a new deal at Liverpool still seems a long way off and the player can officially begin negotiations with foreign clubs from 1 January.

Trent’s impressive performance

The Reds’ homegrown star was a big part of Liverpool's dominant 5-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday, scoring the fourth of the evening.

Although the fullback’s finish was spectacular, his celebration was what most people were left talking about after the match, as Trent celebrated by making a talking motion with his hand next to his ear.

A potential hint that recent speculation that he has decided to join Real Madrid is nonsense perhaps?

Arne Slot’s side currently sit top of the Premier League and Champions League tables and are also through to the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.

This week marks one of the rare occasions when the Reds do not have a midweek match and as such Trent has taken the opportunity to enjoy some time away from Liverpool.

Trent jets off amid contract speculation

The day after he impressed against West Ham, Alexander-Arnold visited the Regina Corner restaurant in Venice, Italy.

The restaurant posted on Instagram thanking Trent and Estelle Behnke for visiting on Monday.

This trip to Venice follows another getaway to Monaco that Trent enjoyed in the build up to Christmas, where the star was spotted enjoying some chimney cake.

Despite his break to start the week, Alexander-Arnold is expected to play a big role when Liverpool host rivals Manchester United on Sunday 5 January.

Supporters will be hoping for another dominant performance from the Reds and will be hoping Trent remains focused on his football, despite speculation about his future heating up.
