With just one day left of the January transfer window, it appears Liverpool are increasingly unlikely to make any signings, especially following the news of coach Jurgen Klopp’s departure at the end of the season.

However, what that means is an increased focus on the summer, with moves already being made in the market, both for players and directors of football to oversee the recruitment.

Here is the latest Liverpool transfer news as of Wednesday 31 January.

Liverpool make enquiries for Brazilian midfielder

Liverpool are reportedly among the clubs to have 'consulted' Atalanta about Brazilian star midfielder Ederson

The 24-year-old joined the Bergamo side in 2022, having first moved to Europe with fellow Italian side Salernitana. Prior to that, he had spells with Cruzeiro and Corinthians, among other clubs in his native Brazil, and is now regarded as one of Serie A's best defensive midfielders.

According to

Goal Brasil, Liverpool — along with Arsenal, Manchester United

, Newcastle and Paris Saint-Germain — are interested in the player's situation and are 'willing to send a proposal'.

However, a deal in the summer is much more likely with Ederson under contract until 2026 and Atalanta going strong in Serie A.

Owen Beck to head back to Dundee

The 21-year-old was recalled by the Reds on 1 January after injuries to both Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas and earned his Premier League debut for the side against Bournemouth on 21 January.

However, with Robertson and Tsimikas nearing returns, Beck will have seen his chances limited once again and will now be looking to pick up where he left off with the Scottish side first time round.

Tim Steidten, a candidate for sporting director

West Ham technical director Tim Steidten is reportedly being considered for the sporting director role at Liverpool, soon to be vacated by Jorg Schmadtke.

According to Sky Germany, Steidten is among the candidates for the position, but there has been "no direct contact" with Liverpool at this stage.

Interestingly, Steidten has a previous working relationship with Xabi Alonso, with the pair having worked together at Bayer Leverkusen before Steidten joined the Hammers last summer.

Increased budget next season

Whoever comes in to fill the role of sporting director at the club will likely have more money to play with, according to Philip Buckingham in The Athletic, thanks to the soon-to-be-opened expanded Anfield Road stand which will elevate the stadium's capacity to around 61,000.

With this enhanced spending capacity, coupled with the anticipated return to Champions League football for the 2024/25 season, the club's spending power will "likely increase", the report says.

As a result,

the incoming coach will undoubtedly have greater flexibility to shape and mould the squad according to their vision.

Arsenal to rival the Reds for Bundesliga youngster

Arsenal are reportedly poised to compete with Liverpool for the signature of Eintracht Frankfurt

youngster Hugo Larsson as they look to strengthen their squad for the long run.

According to a report from SportBILD (via Sport Witness), the Gunners have expressed a strong interest in adding the 19-year-old Swedish midfielder to their squad.

Larsson has impressed in the heart of Frankfurt's midfield throughout the current campaign, establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga's most promising young central midfielders. With two goals and two assists in 26 appearances across various competitions this season, Larsson's influence on the team has been growing.
