Gordon's head TURNED, Kimmich PRIORITY target & Mourinho WANTS Nunez - Liverpool transfer news today
The transfer window has been open for over two weeks now, but things seems to be relatively quiet on the red half of Merseyside.
Liverpool are yet to finalise any deals and look some distance from Arne Slot's first addition, but things are slowly starting to heat up.
Anthony Gordon is the latest high-profile name linked with the Reds after reliable reports surfaced over the weekend and there has been an update on his potential return to Merseyside.
Here's your latest Liverpool transfer news on Tuesday 2 July.
ANTHONY GORDON'S HEAD MAY HAVE TURNED
Liverpool rejected the opportunity to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle owing to concerns over his valuation and a belief that they had sufficient strength in depth in his position.
That’s according to a new report from The Athletic, which also claims the Magpies had no chance of ever signing Jarell Quansah as part of the deal.
However, it’s been reported in The Athletic that Newcastle sources fear that Gordon has had his head turned over the prospect of returning to Merseyside.
The winger was on Liverpool’s books until the age of 11 before he was let go and ultimately came up through Everton’s youth ranks.
LIVERPOOL TURN ATTENTION TO JOSHUA KIMMICH
Liverpool are now reported to be ready to end their interest in Teun Koopmeiners in favour of an attempt to sign Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich.
Currently starring for Germany at Euro 2024, the 29-year-old is out of contract at the Allianz Arena next summer with FC Hollywood now reported to be willing to cash in for what could prove to be a bargain fee during this transfer window.
Another contender tipped to arrive at Anfield this summer had been Koopmeiners, the Atalanta midfielder who won the Europa League with his side last season.
However, Juventus are the club closest to signing Koopmeiners this summer and Liverpool appear to have focused their attention elsewhere.
Liverpool dropping out of the running in favour of an attempt to sign Kimmich would appear to confirm that Juve are confident of getting a deal over the line.
JOSE MOURINHO WANTS DARWIN NUNEZ
Jose Mourinho and Jorge Mendes are plotting a deal which will take Darwin Nunez from Liverpool to Fenerbahce on an initial season-long loan deal.
That’s according to a report in Turkish outlet Ajansspor, which claims that the Special One sees Nunez as the ideal candidate to replace the recently departed Michy Batshuayi.
The report claims that Fener have made an offer to Nunez, who signed for Liverpool in a deal which could reach €85 million back in the summer of 2022.
The Uruguay striker is under contract at Anfield until 2028 and it’s highly unlikely that the £140,000-a-week star will be persuaded to drop the Premier League for the Turkish Super Lig any time soon.
Moreover, Liverpool are not likely to cash their chips on Nunez just yet, much less lose him on a loan.
FEYENOORD STAR RESPONDS TO LIVERPOOL LINKS
Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao has responded to transfer links with Liverpool this summer and the possibility of a reunion with former coach Arne Slot.
Links between the Reds and the Feyenoord winger, who was signed by Slot in Rotterdam, have been tentative but Paixao has admitted that he's aware of such rumours circulating.
Speaking to Ge Globo in Brazil. the 24-year-old forward admitted: "I only see this on social media. [The fans] don’t want me to leave Feyenoord, but it’s not up to me. Together with my business owners and board, we will decide the best path forward.
"I am listening and watching social media. Lots of people always tagging me and asking: are you going to Liverpool? I don’t know anything, I’m just waiting. But Dutch football is pretty cool. Intensity is the big difference."
ARCHIE GRAY SET FOR TOTTENHAM SWITCH
Liverpool have missed out on signing Leeds United sensation Archie Gray after the 18-year-old agreed a lucrative move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool were one of the clubs reportedly interested in a move for the versatile youngster, who blossomed for the Whites last season despite missing out on promotion to the Premier League.
Liverpool's interest in Gray had been reported widely but the Reds evidently decided against pursuing a move for the talented youngster.
Tottenham have agreed a £40m fee with Leeds according to The Athletic, with Joe Rodon, who is valued at £10m, heading in the other direction. In essence, Spurs are actually paying just £30m for Gray.
