Liverpool Transfer News Today: Romano announces massive BOOST and Zubimendi CONFIRMED as top target
Liverpool are set to see a Michael Edwards plan come to fruition as Fabrizio Romano confirms a major summer transfer is getting very close.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Twitter/X on Wednesday that Tottenham Hotspur will push forward on a deal for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke. The striker has given the 'green light' on a move and negotiations are firmly underway.
"Understand Tottenham are pushing to get Dominic Solanke deal done, talks underway with Bournemouth," wrote Romano.
"Solanke has given the green light to Spurs as negotiations are ongoing to find an agreement.
"Tottenham want Solanke, as exclusively revealed last week."
One 'problem' Tottenham have in their negotiations is that Liverpool boast a 20% sell-on clause here. They sold Solanke to Bournemouth for £19m back in 2019 and the profit on that could end up being significant.
The Cherries put a release clause in Solanke's contract and will point to it here. That stands at £65m, meaning £46m profit - and a potential £9m to Liverpool.
It was a deal struck during Michael Edwards' reign as sporting director and one that is now on the brink of coming to fruition. A masterclass, really, and one that would take Solanke's overall sale to £28m.
Zubimendi CONFIRMED as top Liverpool summer target
A trusted journalist has now named the player Liverpool are reportedly pushing to sign this summer after much speculation.
Paul Joyce of The Times claims Liverpool are considering Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad. The Spanish midfielder has been one of several names linked to the Reds over the past 24 hours.
A report from the Athletic claimed Liverpool wanted a new no.6 and had finally chosen a player for the role. That came after prior reports that they were unable to find a suitable candidate.
So the news that they'd settled on a player generated plenty of excitement - and speculation. The Athletic didn't actually name anyone, after all, and there are plenty of interesting holding midfielders out there.
Zubimendi, though, was at the top of just about everyone's wishlist and it appears he's at the top of Liverpool's, too. Whether they can secure him this summer, however, is another matter.
ROMANO: LIVERPOOL TO MISS OUT ON PEDRO NETO
Tottenham look ready to accelerate their interest in Pedro Neto which could lead to Liverpool missing out.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed on a Playback livestream that Pedro Neto is a player “very highly rated by Tottenham” and hinted that they may be ready to accelerate their interest in the 24-year-old.
Pedro Neto is a name that will certainly get many Liverpool fans excited and he is believed to be a long-term target for the Reds.
KONE OFFERED FOR BARGAIN PRICE
Manu Koné has been offered to Liverpool after asking to leave Borussia Monchengladbach.
HITC are reporting that Koné has been offered to a number of English clubs and could be available for as little as £20 million.
Liverpool’s interest in Koné dates back to last summer when Jörg Schmadtke held the position of Liverpool’s sporting director.
SLOT DECIDES DOAK WILL LEAVE
Arne Slot has decided that one ‘special’ Liverpool player can leave the club this summer. The Dutchman has now assessed his squad.
Football Scotland claims that Arne Slot is happy to loan out Ben Doak for the upcoming season. Slot has been assessing his squad over the last month or so in order to allow certain players to leave.
Doak is now one of those who isn't expected to have a role at Liverpool this season. The Reds will instead try to loan him elsewhere and clubs are reportedly interested.
FIVE CLUBS INTERESTED IN LIVERPOOL WONDERKID
A major transfer battle is underway as Bobby Clark gears up for a potential exit.
Interest has come from all around for the 19-year-old midfielder this summer. Liverpool have already rejected a £6 million bid from Pep Ljinders’ RB Salzburg for the youngster.
Clark impressed for Liverpool last season making 14 appearances for the first team, including one off the bench in the league cup final.
Now Clark is at the centre of a transfer battle that could see him move on permanently or on loan for the season.
