Liverpool transfer news today: Jota out, Joao Pedro IN, Milan ENTER Diaz race, El Khannouss LATEST
Here's all your Liverpool transfer news for Friday December 13 2024.
Joao Pedro in, Jota out?
The emerging reports that Liverpool will be actively pursuing a deal for Brighton’s Joao Pedro as early as the January transfer window have understandably raised the eyebrows of Reds all over the world.
Pedro has seven goal involvements in nine games this season - mixed in with a stint on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury - and over the past year has become one of the most exciting attackers the Premier League has to offer.
He has been an essential part of Brighton’s rise, scoring six goals in as many games in their Europa League run last year. He has shown the potential to cut it with the very best, so it’s no surprise Liverpool are interested.
Why Liverpool WANT Momodou Sonko
It was early on in Momodou Sonko's footballing career when he arrived at Kirkby on a warm spring afternoon to begin a trial with Liverpool. Only just 12 years old at the time, this was Sonko's first footballing adventure away from Sweden. His first trial at a foreign club.
Sonko spent a few days with Liverpool's academy back in 2017 and was taken around the club's facilities and museum in what was an indelible moment for the youngster. Ever since then, Liverpool have heavily monitored Sonko's progress.
As Anfield Watch revealed exclusively the club continues to follow him even now and tried to sign the Swedish winger back in the January transfer window.
But just why are Liverpool so keen?
Manager CONFIRMS he wants to agree MULTIPLE deals with Richard Hughes
As a clear way to develop hand-picked members of the academy to fast-track their development, Liverpool will often send players out on loan.
Should the right club be chosen, Liverpool then have a returning player who has grown as a professional for the experience, and a relationship then develops between the two loaning clubs.
However, deciding which club to loan to, that will care and nurture your players while challenging them the right way, can be a difficult process.
Diaz wants OUT, Milan enter race
A recent report stated that Luis Diaz was unhappy with Liverpool’s latest contract offer and was willing to leave the club.
Now, a new report by Colombian sports outlet Antena 2 has suggested that negotiations between the club and the winger have failed and there is a very interested suitor.
“The striker's entourage has revealed that negotiations for his renewal with the Reds have failed… his leading role in the team led by Arne Slot is not related to the salary he receives and he has demanded an improvement in his contract to match the club's leaders.” reads the report.
And whilst both Barcelona and PSG have had their interest in Diaz previously registered, it is now AC Milan that appear to be bullish about the Colombian international.
Liverpool transfer target's father outlines DEMANDS for next move
Liverpool have been excelling on the pitch this season, leading the way in each competition they play, while eyeing up a semi-final spot in the EFL Cup to defend their title.
Liverpool have a number of contracts to organise, both this year and next, and Richard Hughes is beginning to find his feet as the club's sporting director, following a disappointing summer.
Currently, the positions which need the most attention are left-back, defensive midfield, striker and perhaps an additional winger.
And while Liverpool often like to wait until they find their perfect target, who can come into the team straight away, the club is also partial to filling their academy with the best talents in the world.
The father of one such target has recently spoken out about the conditions of a possible move to Liverpool.
Why Liverpool ALREADY want to sign Bilal El Khannouss
Liverpool like Leicester City wonderkid Bilal El Khannouss - but why? Here's what you need to know.
Anfield Watch exclusively reported this week that Bilal El Khannouss remains on the radar at Liverpool. The Reds actually looked at the playmaker before his move to Leicester City but didn't like the price tag.
£21m, after all, is a massive amount for a player out of the Belgian Pro League. The Foxes were willing to take that gamble - Liverpool, however, were happy to wait.
And it is just a waiting game. Liverpool haven't ended their pursuit but they'd be far happier paying a big premium for a player who's proven himself in the Premier League.
But why El Khannouss? What is it about him that excites Liverpool and has them retain a long-term interest?
Reds handed INCREDIBLE Alphonso Davies update
Liverpool are at risk of losing Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold this season because their contracts are set to run out.
The club is trying to renegotiate with the players in order to extend their stay on Merseyside, but talks haven't proved as fruitful as many would have liked quite yet.
However, if Liverpool were to be unsuccessful in keeping their homegrown talent, they might have an alternative option, taking advantage of a similar situation that is unfolding at Bayern Munich.
Wataru Endo faces MAJOR future twist
Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo became a fan favourite after signing for the club at the start of the 2023-24 season.
It’s clear that new head coach Arne Slot isn’t a massive fan of Endo, opting to only start him TWICE to this point and he instead uses the 31-year-old as an extra body to see the game out.
However the latest off-field events around Anfield could yet mean that Endo is handed a Liverpool reprieve.
