Liverpool transfer news today: Gomez SWAP, Ngumoha CLOSE, Endo UPDATE

Here’s all the latest Liverpool transfer news with updates on Joe Gomez, Wataru Endo, Sepp van den Berg and Rio Ngumoha.

We're not sure Liverpool are all that close to signing a player but it certainly seems like a sale could happen. There's plenty of chatter around that - even if we need to wait until they're back from the USA.

Liverpool are the only club in the Premier League who haven't signed a player this summer. They're one of remarkably few across Europe, in fact.

But maybe sales need to happen first?

Liverpool were willing to sell Gomez

Liverpool sanctioned a huge sale this summer in order to pay for Anthony Gordon. The deal, however, collapsed at the last minute.

The Daily Mail reports that Liverpool did sanction a deal for Anthony Gordon in late June. The Reds were in talks with Newcastle United, who were desperately trying to scrap the cash together to meet Premier League spending rules.

Gordon was a high-profile sale who would solve their problems in one go. The player was eager to make the move, too, given he's a boyhood Red.

Initial talks didn't go too well, as Liverpool wouldn't meet the £100m asking price. Newcastle's idea of including Jarell Quansah didn't go down well, either, but a compromise was found.

Liverpool would sell Joe Gomez to Newcastle for £45m and then buy Gordon for £75m. That would allow the Magpies to secure the funds they needed while also signing in a top player. The Reds would then get a far easier deal financially.

Rio Ngumoha deal is close

Liverpool are about to sign their first player of this transfer window as Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the deal for Rio Ngumoha is set to be complete.

A few weeks ago, the news broke about Liverpool poaching one of Chelsea’s top talents from the academy, with the Blues said to be furious at losing their highly-rated youngster.

Plenty of young players are on Liverpool’s USA pre-season tour trying to impress new head coach Arne Slot. Whether Ngumoha will be given that same chance so soon after joining remains to be seen.

Since Ngumoha is only 16 years old, the deal has not been a straightforward one to finalise for The Reds.

The club had to go through the Premier League’s five-step investigation process, which involved interviews with Ngumoha’s parents.

Van den Berg could leave next week

Liverpool could strike a £20m deal for Sepp van den Berg as early as next week, says one journalist. The Reds are open to talks.

Dutch journalist Rik Eflrink has reiterated that Liverpool could sell Sepp van den Berg next week. Essentially, the Reds are just waiting to get back from their preseason tour of the US.

Van den Berg has a role to play until then, with certain players still missing after the international tournaments. Liverpool won't let him go until he's offered cover - though, it's also a chance to have a proper look at a player who excelled out on loan last season.

The Dutchman is apparently impressing his new boss, Arne Slot. It's a positive start if he does want to secure a place in Liverpool's squad but it's not entirely clear that Van den Berg wants that.

He's voiced concerns that Liverpool are overvaluing him in talks with other clubs. At the end of the day, Van den Berg wants to play regular football somewhere and knows his chances of that at Anfield are slim.

Especially when Liverpool are open to selling him.

"The case of Sepp van den Berg [to PSV], it will not become topical again until next week at the earliest," Elfrink wrote on X.  "This week he and his club will first complete the 'Preseason Tour' in the United States. Liverpool are not moving now."

Liverpool set to keep Endo

Liverpool are unwilling to weaken their midfield in the transfer window with the Marseille bid for Wataru Endo nowhere near their valuation.

The Ligue 1 giants put an offer in for Endo but it was swiftly rejected a couple of weeks ago.

That is because Roberto De Zerbi’s side only offered £12 million which is less than what they want for the midfielder, according to Football Insider.

They signed Endo for £16.2 million at the start of last season so it is no surprise that Marseille’s initial offer was rejected as Liverpool would be at a loss.
