Luis Diaz sparks contract concerns

One contract issue surrounds Luis Diaz, who joined the club from Porto in January 2022. Unusually for a Liverpool starter, Diaz remains on the SAME contract terms that he signed when moving from the Portuguese giants almost three years after joining.

It’s understood that the Colombia winger is one of the lowest-paid senior stars in Arne Slot’s squad, with his current deal expiring in 2027. Diaz would like a renewal to reflect his status within the squad with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona reportedly waiting to pounce should talks falter.

And the latest reports in Colombia do not present a pretty picture over the 27-year-old’s renewal. Antena 2 states there is ‘uncertainty’ over Diaz’s future at the club despite having more than two years left on his contract.

Liverpool are watching Jamie Gittens closely and will love what they see. The Borussia Dortmund star has produced absolute magic.

Sky Germany reports that Liverpool are one of a few Premier League clubs eager to sign Jamie Gittens. The 20-year-old has seven goals and three assists this season in what's beginning to feel like a breakout campaign.

Gittens has produced moments of real magic this season but Saturday was something else. With 26 minutes on the clock, the ball was played into the Englishman on halfway and he dummied it expertly to leave Konrad Laimer in his dust.

The 32-year-old is free to speak to overseas clubs regarding a free transfer in little over a month’s time with Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal now reckoned to be the favourites to do a deal.

Last summer it was Al-Ittihad who made a play to sign Salah but their efforts fell short despite offering Liverpool an estimated £150 million transfer fee. However, it’s now reported that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) is growing in confidence about signing Salah next summer for one of its flagship clubs, a list which includes Al-Hilal.

According to TEAMtalk, Saudi negotiators will wait until after the January transfer window to resume talks with Salah’s entourage and attempt to convince the Egyptian King to sign a pre-contract agreement.

Real Madrid make Trent Alexander-Arnold move

January 1 marks the day that the high-profile trio will be entitled to open talks with foreign suitors and, potentially, lock down a pre-contract agreement. Real Madrid have been linked most strongly with Alexander-Arnold, with current first-choice right-back Dani Carvajal injured.

Alexander-Arnold would be a long-term replacement for the 32-year-old in the position, whose contract expires in 2026.

It’s been reported by talkSPORT that Real Madrid have now contacted Liverpool to inform them of their intentions to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Liverpool want Frimpong

Christian Falk is adamant that Liverpool want Jeremie Frimpong and are eyeing him up. He's given that information to both Bild and Caught Offside now.

The latter is particularly interesting. Falk makes it very clear that there's a release clause here for the Reds and, more importantly, their key rival for the player is no longer in the race.

“Liverpool are looking at Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong – and it’s because of Trent Alexander-Arnold,” says Falk.

Panic over Liverpool's interest in Soler

One area that the club are realising will need investment sooner rather than later is left-back.

Club legend Andy Robertson is beginning to show signs of slowing down and, despite grabbing an assist against Real Madrid, gave away penalties in both games Liverpool played in the past week.

Anfield Watch has previously reported that the club have asked to open talks with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, and a recent report claimed that the Reds are considering a bid for Fulham’s Antonee Robinson in January.

And a new report from Jonathan Ritini in El Crack Deportivo states that Liverpool are interested in the 19-year-old Argentinian left-back Julio Soler.
