Liverpool Transfer News Today: Chiesa move CLOSE, Nunez INTEREST, wonderkid exit CONFIRMED
Here's a roundup of all the latest Liverpool transfer news today (Thursday 29 August) as a move for Chiesa edges closer and another Liverpool departure is confirmed.
Romano confirms Liverpool's Chiesa deal
Federico Chiesa arrived in Liverpool yesterday in order to finalise his transfer from Juventus.
Liverpool have agreed a €13 million deal with Juve and Chiesa has agreed to join the Reds on a four-year deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.
It is understood that Chiesa accepted Liverpool immediately after the Reds made an initial approach for the winger earlier this week.
The deal could be officially announced as early as today.
Liverpool could sign a no.6
Liverpool should still be prioritising a no.6 this summer and they could have moved a step closer to signing an ideal option.
The last few years have been chaotic for Liverpool in terms of the club's pursuit of an ideal no.6. Moves have failed for the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni and Moises Caicedo.
Meanwhile, this summer it was Martin Zubimendi, who ultimately rejected the Reds in favour of staying at his boyhood club, Real Sociedad.
One ideal target could be Red Bull Salzburg's Lucas Gourna-Douath. The 21-year-old midfielder proved himself in the Champions League last season and has all the attributes to be an excellent option for Slot - being equally good defensively and in his distribution.
Stefan Bajcetic close to RB Salzburg loan
Liverpool are gearing up to send Pep Lijnders a 'gift' according to Fabrizio Romano following Red Bull Salzburg's Champions League qualification.
The Spanish U21 international only recovered from an injury that ruled him out for close to a year towards the end of last season.
He has looked promising under Arne Slot in pre-season. However, he needs regular minutes in order to get himself into the best possible shape.
That is why according to Fabrizio Romano Liverpool have agreed to send Bajectic on loan to Salzburg, where he will work alongside Lijnders and have the opportunity to play Champions League football.
Interestingly, Romano described the transaction for Bajcetic as a 'gift' sent to Lijnders.
Liverpool set to miss out on defensive target
Liverpool target Mohamed Simakan is nearing a move to Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr.
The defender was reported to still be of interest to Liverpool less than a week ago by German reporter Philip Hinze, who covers RB Leipzig.
Hinze claimed there were no concrete approaches for Simakan, but that Liverpool were interested in the French defender.
Now though, in the latest developments, it seems Simakan will be moving to Saudi Arabia instead. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr have opened talks to sign the RB Leipzig defender.
Nunez linked with shock Arsenal move
The rumour caught on on Tuesday night that Darwin Nunez could complete a later summer move to Mikel Arteta's side, with the Uruguayan allegedly keen to move to London and work under the Spaniard.
The North London side have been seeking for a striker all summer and have been heavily linked to the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen before now being rumoured to eyeing up a sensational swoop for Liverpool's number nine.
It isn't unusual seeing Nunez rumoured with a move away from Anfield. The Uruguayan was linked with a move to Chelsea last season, with talks of a move to Jose Mourinho's Fenerbache also circulating this summer.
Despite Federico Chiesa's move to Liverpool nearing completion, an Anfield departure for Darwin Nunez remains as unlikely as ever, with Arne Slot ready to boast an attack of six outstanding talents.
Doak could still leave Liverpool
Chiesa's arrival will mean more competition in attack in Slot's Liverpool squad and this could see players on the fringes of the club looking to depart before the end of the window.
One of those players could be Ben Doak, who is highly rated by Liverpool and has previously been described as a 'special' talent by Liverpool U21 coach, Barry Lewtas, as per the Liverpool ECHO.
Doak has already made his senior debut for Liverpool but struggled with injuries last season to make an impact in the first team.
Now the Daily Mail reports that if Chiesa is signed by Liverpool, it could see Doak moving out on loan and leaving the club temporarily.
Both Championship and Premier League clubs are believed to be interested in the 18-year-old winger who will weigh up his options.
Owen Beck moves to Blackburn on loan
Liverpool have officially confirmed that the 22-year-old will join Blackburn Rovers on loan for the remainder of the season.
Beck has spent the previous two campaigns out on loan at Bolton and Dundee and has seen multiple clubs from across Europe interested in signing him this summer.
Beck has become the fifth Liverpool player to move on loan to the Lancashire club in as many years and is joining fellow Welshman Lewis Koumas on loan in the Championship.
Beck, who is the great-nephew of Liverpool’s all-time top goal scorer Ian Rush, was described by Jürgen Klopp as a “super talent” and has already made three senior appearances for Liverpool.
