Liverpool Transfer News Today: CHELSEA star interest, Koopmeiners REQUEST, Leverkusen youngster could TRANSFORM Reds
Here’s our roundup of all the latest Liverpool transfer news today (Sunday August 25) as Liverpool set to track Chelsea star.
Arne Slot tells club to track defender
Arne Slot has asked Liverpool to track a Chelsea start for what could be a last-gasp transfer next week. The Reds are yet to sign anyone.
GiveMeSport claims Arne Slot has asked Liverpool to watch Chelsea's Levi Colwill ahead of next week. The transfer window doesn't have long to run, but the Reds could find themselves doing some last-gasp business.
That's because Joe Gomez has an uncertain future. Anfield Watch exclusively revealed months ago that Gomez could leave Liverpool this summer, and the defender was left out of the squad to face Ipswich Town last weekend as he considered his future.
This upcoming week is the big one, then, as it's Gomez's last chance to get a 'full' season with a new club. If he left, though, it may well spark Liverpool into action.
Carragher slams Zubimendi transfer decision
Jamie Carragher has questioned the ambition of Martin Zubimendi after the midfielder rejected Liverpool to remain at Real Sociedad.
Liverpool made Zubimendi their number one target for the summer in a bid to fix their holding midfield issues. The Spaniard opted to stay in the Basque Country with his boyhood club and is set to agree a new deal with the La Liga side.
The Reds are yet to make a signing this summer with the transfer window slamming shut next Friday.
Carragher has now brought up the ambition of Liverpool's primary target after recently being a part of Spain's European Championship winning squad.
Starlet set to leave this summer
Liverpool starlet Stefan Bajcetic is amongst a host of youngsters linked with a move away from Merseyside this summer either permanently or on loan.
Bajcetic, who burst onto the scene under Jurgen Klopp in the 2022/23 campaign, looked to be a mainstay in Liverpool's midfield for years to come, but after an injury-stricken last twelve months, the Spaniard is likely to leave Liverpool this summer.
The 19 year-old was a bright spark during a dull season in Klopp's penultimate campaign at Anfield and looked to be the one who would ultimatley be Fabinho's successor.
Bajcetic's absence has contributed to Liverpool's issues in the holding midfield role with multiple top targets turning down The Reds in recent summers.
Liverpool request Koopmeiners update
Liverpool are running out of time but they’ve made a new request on a player they’ve watched all summer. They might still make something happen.
TeamTalk reports that Liverpool have not given up on a transfer for Teun Koopmeiners, even this late in the window. The Reds have consistently been linked with Koopmeiners all year but the player remains in Atalanta.
Juventus have been the favourites to snap him up for some time now. They've been unable to find a deal, however, and it leaves the door open for other clubs.
Because Koopmeiners is expected to leave. The Belgian isn't training with Atalanta as a move this summer was considered a formality.
That move hasn't materialised, though, and it may leave both player and club a little desperate to get something done. Liverpool, then, have a chance to take advantage.
Youngster could transform Arne Slot's side
Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapié has been the talk of the town in Xabi Alonso’s residence of Leverkusen, with the youngster attracting the attention of clubs across Europe.
And it’s expected the 22- year- old could soon make a name for himself in Merseyside.
The Ecuadorian defender has been closely linked with a move to Liverpool over the summer and is reportedly being monitored by the club, as per Football Insider.
But who is Hincapié, and how important could he be to Arne Slot’s reds?
Signing for Bayer Leverkusen in the 2021/22 campaign, Hincapié has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the German side, featuring 43 times across all competitions in their undefeated league title winning season.
Manager sealed statement Liverpool signing
Brentford boss Thomas Frank believes his club sealed a ‘statement’ signing from Liverpool this summer. The London side have actually signed two Reds in the window.
Brentford have handed over a lot of money to Liverpool this summer. The most recent lump sum came for Sepp van den Berg, who completed a transfer to the Bees this week.
Van den Berg has been one of the most drawn-out stories of the summer at Anfield. It was clear from the start that he would likely leave Liverpool - especially after a surprising interview in which he accused the Reds of 'hindering' his career.
Liverpool were always willing to sell but had an asking price set in stone. A club would need to pay at least £20m to get the youngster, which was out of reach for the favourites to land Van den Berg - Mainz and PSV Eindhoven.
