Liverpool's summer transfer window is yet to explode into life but that hasn't stopped the rumours flying.

There have been strong links between the Reds and former Everton star Anthony Gordon, with a major update having been revealed. Liverpool are also chasing a new centre-back according to reports, while a new defensive midfielder is not out of the question.

Here is all the latest Liverpool transfer news.

NEWCASTLE FEAR LIVERPOOL ASSAULT FOR ANTHONY GORDON

Newcastle United have appointed a new sporting director in Paul Mitchell and one of his first tasks will be to sort out the future of Liverpool target Anthony Gordon.

Gordon, 23, was the subject of transfer interest from the Reds last week after Newcastle floated the idea of a deal in order to ease some of their profit and sustainability rules concerns.

A move ultimately failed to transpire with Liverpool transfer chiefs walking away from talks due to Newcastle’s demands.

ChronicleLive reports that the club are currently unable to predict whether Liverpool will come back in for Gordon before the end of the summer and that Mitchell is set for talks with his representatives.

Former Monaco chief Mitchell must also ascertain the level of interest on the part of Liverpool regarding Gordon.

Gordon is under contract at Newcastle until 2026, having signed in winter 2023, and the report states that a new deal could be on the cards.

NICO WILLIAMS PREFERS BARCELONA MOVE

Liverpool's interest in Athletic Club star Nico Williams may count for little with the 21-year-old reportedly eager to join Barcelona.

The left winger, who has dazzled at Euro 2024 this summer with Spain, has been strongly linked with a summer transfer, with Liverpool among the many sides touted with interest in his signature.

But Liverpool's admiration of the player may not matter come the end of the transfer window, with Williams ready to reject Premier League advances in a bid to secure a move to Barcelona, according to HITC.

The report states that Barca president Joan Laporta has already approved a deal for Williams, with the exciting Spaniard a priority target for new manager Hansi Flick.

However, a deal may hinge on Barca's ability to offload Raphinha and Ferran Torres for big money in the coming weeks. Williams has 'no interest' in a move to England as per HITC.

MARC GUEHI INTERESTING THE REDS

Liverpool are one of many clubs keeping close tabs on Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

"It’s been a quiet summer for Liverpool so far, but we know there was recently interest in Anthony Gordon, and there has been some speculation about a failed attempt at agreeing a swap deal with Newcastle," Romano told Caught Offside.

"In terms of names coming in for the defence, Marc Guehi has been linked with Liverpool (as well as other clubs) several times and he’s impressing with England at the Euros.

"There is interest from many clubs, but nothing close or concrete yet as he wants to focus on the tournament now and not be distracted.

"For sure Guehi remains an interesting name for this summer with two years left on his contract at Crystal Palace."

LIVERPOOL NOT INTERESTED BY RICCARDO CALAFIORI

Liverpool are not pursuing moves for Riccardo Calafiori or Piero Hincapie this summer, with the former closing in on a move to Arsenal.

Piero Hincapie, a double winner in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, is a reported long-term target.

Riccardo Calafiori, meanwhile, has been assessed by Liverpool’s transfer team, according to a report in the Athletic, but the Italian looks set to move elsewhere.

Renowned transfer journalist Ben Jacobs has now weighed into Liverpool’s centre-back plot, revealing to GIVEMESPORT that the trail has gone cold on both Hincapie and Calafiori.

"My understanding is that Liverpool are not actively in the race for him at this stage, we've heard links with several Premier League clubs, but Liverpool sources downplay the links that are being made between Calafiori and them, so it appears that they have other targets that they are working on," he said.

"That's the same also for Piero Hincapie as well, who is constantly being linked with Liverpool."

JOSHUA KIMMICH LIKELY TO LEAVE BAYERN MUNICH THIS SUMMER

Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich is likely to leave Bavaria this summer after Fulham's Joao Palhinha agreed a deal to join the German giants, according to Romano.

Bayern are close to finalising the signing of Palhinha for an initial €51 million, potentially rising to €56m should all add-ons be met.

Palhinha’s arrival could spell the end for Liverpool target Joshua Kimmich, who is out of contract in 2025 but whose departure wouldn’t come as a surprise this summer.

Kimmich, 29, is available for between €30m and €40m, according to German reports, and Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona are the clubs he would choose as his next destination.

"There has been a lot of speculation about Joshua Kimmich in particular as he’s in the final year of his contract at Bayern now, and some fans have asked me if Palhinha’s arrival means he’s replacing him." Romano wrote on Caught Offside.

"Let’s see what happens because Bayern have still a chance to extend Kimmich’s contract. Still, the most likely scenario at the moment is for Kimmich to leave and try a new experience."
