Together the duo have only seen the Reds lose ONCE all season long - in the Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest back in September.

However, despite the solidity demonstrated in the heart of defence, there are no guarantees that this partnership is going to last very long.

Van Dijk, 33, is out of contract at the end of the current season with no breakthrough reached over a new deal as yet.

Before Christmas it appeared inevitable that the club captain would ink a new deal but Al Hilal have since entered the running for his signature.

Entitled to speak to potential interested overseas clubs since January 1, the Reds are powerless to prevent Van Dijk from making a pre-contract arrangement with any suitors.

PSG want Konate

Equally uncertain is the future of Ibrahima Konate. The 25-year-old French defender is out of contract in 2026 and recently passed comment that a new deal was a long way off.

Paris Saint-Germain are knocking at the door for Konate, who grew up in the French capital, as revealed by Anfield Watch. And if FSG cannot come to terms over a new contract then they must sell Konate next summer in order to avoid losing him on a free in 2026.

The scale of Liverpool’s problems should they lose both Van Dijk and Konate was laid bare by Brentford manager Thomas Frank in a video released by Sky Sports this week.

The Dane was analysing the recent 2-0 Liverpool victory over his side at the Gtech Community Stadium in which the central defensive axis was awesome.

Frank on Van Dijk and Konate: 'What a level!'

“My feeling after and after we looked at the game back, we defended so well,” he said. “Like so well. And I think it would have been a fair point. Of course, you could say if there should have been a winner, it should be Liverpool because of the amount of shots and all that. “But there’s also, I think even Slot acknowledged that after the game.

“So we had 13-14 dangerous attacks where there was maybe no outcome because of their centre backs on the day. What a level!” “They are good. I don’t think I have ever seen something that good.”

A reminder - if one were needed of what Liverpool would be losing if they fail to shore up new deals.

Frank was also full of praise for Arne Slot’s team overall, previously describing them as the best in the world.

“I think we just played City and Arsenal, and now Liverpool in a short amount of time. For me, they’re a level above the two teams,” he admitted. “They’re the best team in the Premier League and the world.”
