Liverpool also have one of the best academies in the world, developing the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Raheem Sterling and Curtis Jones in recent years.
Before that it was the likes of Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Ballon d'Or winner Michael Owen, who went through the ranks at the academy to establish themselves as some of the most iconic names in English football of the early 2000s era.
But not everyone can make it at Liverpool. Sometimes the club have to let go of talented players, and sometimes the club may even come to regret that decision in years to come.
Anthony Gordon's special connection to Liverpool
One of those players was Anthony Gordon, who played at Liverpool's academy until he was 11 years old before being released and joining Everton.
Years later, Liverpool then tried to sign him last summer with Richard Hughes reportedly a fan of the player and even entering talks with Newcastle to try and bring him to Anfield.
Now addressing those speculations on Sky's League of their Own, Gordon revealed his special connection to the Reds when asked if all of his family members were Everton fans.
'I have no family members who support Everton,' Gordon said. 'They are all Liverpool [fans] so it was quite strange.'
Jamie Redknapp then asked Gordon why he didn't go to Liverpool.
'So I was at Liverpool and they released me,' Gordon explained. 'When I was 11 years old and then Everton signed me.'
'And then they were trying to buy you back for what £80m in the summer, it's mad isn't it?' Redknapp said.
That elicited a lot of laughs from the audience, including Gordon himself, who remained tight lipped about Liverpool's offer.
Gordon was also asked how his family felt about him going to Everton and he made an extraordinary revelation.
'As long as we lost, they were alright. If I scored, they were like "if you score great but we want you to lose still" but my family are like really really bitter Liverpool fans,' Gordon concluded.
Those claims are quite extraordinary from the Newcastle winger. Since the summer he has signed a new deal with Newcastle which makes it almost impossible for the Reds to get him.
Liverpool's attentions seem to have shifted towards his teammate Alexander Isak recently.
