Liverpool STILL have chance to sign long-term target but time is RUNNING OUT

A midfield target long chased by top European clubs is still available if Liverpool wish to sign him.

With the English transfer window shut as of yesterday, it is understandable that many fans view the squads currently in place as final, and to pretty much all extents that remains true.

Apart from under one condition: the signing of free agents. Players out of contract can still be registered with English clubs until the 13th of September and it is thanks to this loophole that one long-time Liverpool target could still join head coach Arne Slot’s team.

Adrien Rabiot is a player who has been at the top of European football for the last decade, and has frequently been linked with a move to the Premier League. Having left Juventus at the end of his contract this summer, he has remained a free agent ever since.

There was reportedly hope from Rabiot that Real Madrid might be tempted to take him on a free transfer, but then when this did not materialise he set his sights on a move to England, a league and country which he has allegedly long been hoping to play in.

Liverpool have been linked with Rabiot on and off for several years, but most notably these links have ramped up over the past two years as it has become clear further midfield arrivals are prioritised at Anfield.

Would Rabiot be a good fit?

A versatile and elegant midfielder, Rabiot has played a variety of midfield positions and roles throughout his career, so there is a suggestion he could be a holding midfield option after the Reds didn’t manage to land their no.1 target for that role for the third summer in a row.

Were Rabiot’s transfer to materialise, he would provide further midfield depth after understandable consternation that Liverpool have not been able to add to that department during the summer window.

However, given that Rabiot is still available as a free agent at such a late stage of proceedings means that a move for him is fairly unlikely we reckon.
