As has become apparent all season, Liverpool will be in for a new striker this summer.

When Arne Slot joined the club last year, he knew he would be taking over a team that had challenged for the title the season prior, just running out of steam as the run-in entered its crunch phase.

Over the last eight months, he has worked tirelessly to turn the squad into a harder asset to beat and subsequently, the league title will be heading to Merseyside for the second time in six seasons.
But in order for the momentum of the team to be prolonged, a number of fresh faces will need to be brought in, and according to the latest reports, one of those new recruits could be Jonathan David.
Liverpool in race for highly contested Lille striker
RMC Sport are claiming that six clubs are set to battle Liverpool for the signature of Canadian striker David, who has become acclaimed for his consistent run of high-calibre performances.
At just 25-years-old, he is primed for a big career move after spending five seasons with Lille and this summer he is expected to be the subject of a bidding war in the transfer market.
His contract at Les Dogues is not going to be renewed, meaning he will become available on a free transfer, and accordingly he has faced interest from Newcastle, Manchester United, Tottenham, West Ham, Chelsea, Liverpool and Marseille, in addition to Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Juventus.
With regard to the Premier League race, the Reds should be well positioned, having just won the title, but looking beyond a potential move to England, things are far from less straightforward.
Strikers have always been somewhat of a prized asset, but nowadays they're like gold dust.
Regardless of what league you play in, and what team you play for, a proven track record is enough to spark clubs' interest in you. With David, his last three seasons are all you need to know - in 2022/23 he had 26 goals and four assists, in 2023/24 he had 26 goals and eight assists, and this season he has 25 goals and 11 assists.
He's a prolific goal machine, and exactly the type of asset that Liverpool have been screaming out for all season, while Mohamed Salah has carried the attacking workload for the team.
Darwin Nunez's future is likely to leave the club this season, and Diogo Jota is on thin ice after an underwhelming season - although he has been hit by a few different injuries concerns with have hindered him.
Currently, it looks like Marseille are leading the race for him, in an attempt to keep the striker in France, although Champions League football will be a deciding factor in any potential move there.
Furthermore, Get Football News France recognises that David has previously spoken about a preference to play in La Liga, so the Premier League clubs might not have a chance.

But one thing should be clear, if Liverpool receive any indication that a move for him is a legitimate possibility, then there should be no hesitation about what to do. Bring the man to Merseyside.
