Should Liverpool sign Adam Wharton?
The weekend just gone saw Liverpool crowned champions of England for the 20th time. All eyes were on Anfield on Sunday, where a 5-1 demolition of Tottenham confirmed what we all knew for a long time.
Arne Slot’s side are well-deserved Premier League champions, easily holding off Arsenal’s challenge to the throne. Elsewhere at the weekend there were the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley.

Manchester City qualified for the final courtesy of a routine win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday at the same time as Liverpool were beating up on Spurs.

And the day before it was Crystal Palace who emerged victorious following their impressive win over Aston Villa. Key to the win was midfielder Adam Wharton.
Social media was alight with praise for the England international afterwards and it’s not hard to see why. A fulcrum for the Eagles in the centre of the pitch, Wharton’s highlight reel made for compelling viewing.
Where could Adam Wharton fit in?
There was an array of passing capabilities, short and long, and he wasn’t afraid to stick his foot in either.
Liverpool fans were once again calling for Wharton to be signed by the Reds ahead of the summer transfer window, with links well-established with the left-footer since his days at Blackburn Rovers.
There could well be a midfield shakeup at Anfield in the forthcoming transfer window with Wataru Endo, Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton all earmarked for an exit.
However, Liverpool’s core midfield group is very settled and all are a good age with no need to replace them any time soon.
There is no doubt that Wharton could deputise for any of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Alllister, Dominik Szoboszlai and - when he starts - Curtis Jones.
But has he got enough in his game to become an immediate starter? And, if not, would Liverpool be prepared to pay up to £100 million for a rotation option?
Liverpool definitely like Wharton
It was a matter recently considered by Liverpool journalist David Lynch, who discussed the potential of Wharton’s arrival on The Redmen TV.
“The central midfield is I think one where people would like to see some spending done and a big signing made,” he said. “I think all of the talk around Wharton, for example, definitely a player Liverpool like.
“I know they were tracking him at Blackburn and so they’ll have watched him at Palace and he’s still absolutely brilliant. But the problem is you’re hearing numbers like £100m.
“For Liverpool I just think – and I know people don’t like this – I don’t think a midfielder is going to be at the top of their priorities this summer.
“They might lose Endo so they need to replace him, but they can’t replace him with a Wharton because I don’t know how you sell that to him."

Unless something drastic happens to Liverpool's midfield - such as an irresistible offer from Real Madrid for either Gravenberch or Mac Allister - then it's hard to see how this arrival could be facilitated in the upcoming window.
FSG are not prone to throwing money around either and so for now we better classify Wharton in the “nice to have” category rather than “necessity”.
