Premier League star sends CLEAR come-and-get-me plea to Liverpool

Liverpool have been directly told by one Premeir League star that he would move to them. How often does that happen in public?

Liverpool have some big decisions to make going forward as they attempt to reshape their squad under Arne Slot. Incredibly, that's something they're yet to do - but Slot still has the team sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League.

This summer, though, must see change. For one, Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract.

They're all leaving as things stand, even if we continue to cross our fingers that new contracts will be signed. You better believe that Liverpool are searching for replacements, though.

But they're not the only potential exits. There are plenty of stars who could depart once the season is done as the new era truly gets underway.

Anfield Watch understands that an overhaul is coming in attack, too. And then there's defence.

Liverpool face a few issues in defence. Joe Gomez nearly left the club last summer and will have another chance to do so this time around.

Ibrahima Konate is a big one, given his contract expires in 2026. Anfield Watch exclusively revealed this month that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing him soon.

Put that with the potential exits for Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk. Now things look quite dicey at the back for Liverpool and Slot.

Perhaps that's why one defender is openly calling for a move.

Sepp van den Berg calls out Liverpool

Sepp van den Berg left Liverpool for Brentford in the summer. The Reds would have been happy for him to stay, admittedly, but the player pushed for first-team football.

Only, he admits that despite establishing himself under Thomas Frank, Van den Berg does 'dream' of returning to Anfield.

"I had a few conversations with Slot," he told Voetbal International. "But before the preparation started, I already indicated to the club that I wanted to leave and play minutes.

"I would be lying if I said that I did not dream of returning to Liverpool one day. That is still on my mind."

Van den Berg then reiterated that later in the interview.

"I did well in pre-season and I really saw myself playing for the club, but not with the credit that I now have at Brentford," he said. "I am now a starter who always plays as long as he is fit.

"At Liverpool, I would have been more of a player who had to fill gaps. I would rather be that starter. And who knows, if I do well here for two or three years, I will return to Liverpool and be a starter there too ."

Maybe he will. Liverpool will certainly have their eyes on Van den Berg, who they know incredibly well. The fact he's capable of playing both centre-back and right-back makes him a valuable asset to a team that could lose both centre-backs and right-backs.

We do think it's a little too soon for Van den Berg to return, though. Not to mention that he doesn't have enough 'credit' yet to be a first-choice player at Anfield.

Give it another year or two, though - and a period of exceptional form - and who knows? Maybe Van den Berg's Liverpool story isn't finished?
