Liverpool news: Ryan Gravenberch not a long term solution says Paul Scholes

Paul Scholes believes that Ryan Gravenberch will not be a long-term solution to Liverpool's number six problem.

At the beginning of the transfer window, the defensive midfield role was an area for improvement for Arne Slot's side, especially after Wataru Endo was not considered to be part of the new head coach's plans.

However after failing to secure top target Martin Zubimendi who opted to stay at boyhood club Real Sociedad, it seems highly unlikely the club will not fulfil the role.

Is Gravenberch the solution?

It appears the only viable option available to the Reds is to play Ryan Gravenberch in the number six role.

The Dutchman put on a dominant display in Liverpool's opening Premier League game against Ipswich, earning praise from both fans and pundits.

However Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Gravenberch won't be a long-term solution for the midfield.

Speaking on the Fan Debate podcast with Jamie Carragher, Scholes said: "I know you talked about Gravenberch playing in that position but I'm not 100 percent that'll be his position for number of games and I think David [Ornstein] will tell you more than anyone they are looking for someone in that position."

Liverpool have a track record of only going after players that will significantly improve the squad, so it is not unusual that Richard Hughes refuses to be peer pressured into making a drastic decision.

The Reds have also recently been linked with free agent Adrien Rabiot as well as Atalanta player Teun Koopmeiners however no talks have been confirmed.

Since Fabinho left Anfield, Liverpool have been unable to replace a player of his calibre and lost out to Chelsea in the race to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

However Gravenberch looks like he could become more comfortable as a six working alongside Alexis Mac Allister as a double pivot.
