The two giants are often in for the same players and, unfortunately for Liverpool fans, Real Madrid tend to come out on top when it comes to transfers – convincing Aurelien Tchouameni, Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe to move to Spain’s capital over Merseyside in recent years.

This season has been filled with speculation that the 15-time European Cup winners could tempt one of Liverpool’s biggest stars, Trent Alexander-Arnold, away from Anfield - but he isn’t the only current red being linked with a move to the Bernabeu.

In recent weeks, links to both Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch have also emerged, but one of these Madrid-linked stars definitely won’t be swapping Liverpool for Spain anytime soon.

Real Madrid’s links to Ryan Gravenberch

Much of the speculation linking Liverpool’s Dutch sensation Gravenberch with a move to the current Champions League holders came when his agent revealed it was a dream transfer.

“He's good enough for Real Madrid. We would love for him to play for them, but Liverpool would ask for a lot of money,” Jose Fortes told MARCA. “I know they've had their eye on him, but now it's impossible.”

These comments caused quite a stir amongst the Liverpool fanbase online, but the panic can now end.

Writing for Mail Online, Lewis Steele has confirmed that Gravenberch ‘is going nowhere’ and any links between the 22-year-old and Real Madrid can be disregarded.

Additionally, Fortes has since added some context to his comments to MARCA, responding to criticism from a Liverpool supporter on Instagram by saying ‘I'm Spanish, it's my dream club, not the dream club of Ryan.’

Gravenberch’s outstanding season

After a difficult debut season at Liverpool, Gravenberch has come into his own under the tutelage of his compatriot Arne Slot.

The midfielder has been almost ever-present for the Reds this season, earning himself a reputation as one of Europe’s most promising midfielders with his performances.

It comes as no surprise therefore that Real Madrid could be interested in the Ajax academy graduate, but Liverpool won’t be looking to sell.

After a season filled with uncertainty around Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold, the last thing supporters want is more uncertainty around another top star.

Both Salah and Van Dijk have now signed extensions with Liverpool and it looks like Gravenberch is here to stay so things aren’t as bad as some supporters once feared.

Gravenberch has shown his quality this season, and he will undoubtedly continue to be a huge part of Arne Slot’s plans as he looks for another successful season at Anfield.
