Although Diaz’s current contract doesn’t expire until 2027, it is believed that Liverpool could entertain bids for the Colombia next summer as he is unlikely to sign a new deal.

That means space potentially opening up on either side of the Reds’ attack with several names being mentioned as possible replacements.

One which has gathered steam over the past few days in Portugal has been that of Geovany Quenda of Sporting CP.

Liverpool hold talks over Quenda

The 17-year-old was a favourite of Ruben Amorim during his time at the club with the current Manchester United boss favouring the youngster in his wing-back system.

Since Amorim has left the club he has been restored to a wing position and the left-footer is capable of playing on either side of the attack.

Reports suggested earlier this week that United had actually wrapped up a €60 million deal for the Portugal youth international - scheduled for next summer - but those claims have since been rowed back.

While it has been widely reported that Quenda is on the radar for Amorim, no deal has yet been agreed. And now Record in Portugal is claiming that Liverpool are among the Premier League teams who have held preliminary talks over a deal for the wide man.

Manchester City and Man Utd have also been in touch with the player’s entourage this season and a formal offer from any of the Premier League giants could materialise ahead of the summer window.

The Reds have got a chance to steal in front of United for an Amorim mainstay and, given his age and potential, he could dominate the wings at Anfield for years to come.

This season Quenda has played 34 times in all competitions, scoring twice and providing six assists. His current deal at Sporting expires in summer 2027.
