The footballing world knows Liverpool need a defensive midfielder and the rumours of who they may sign are flying, so here's your roundup of the latest transfer news...

With just two days until Liverpool face Bournemouth in their first home game of the season, it seems as though Liverpool are now even further away from making their third, much-needed summer signing.

After the news that Moises Caicedo chose to sign for Chelsea instead of the Reds, the last thing Liverpool fans wanted to hear was another key target choosing the blues, but unfortunately Romeo Lavia also looks to have chosen Mauricio Pochettino's side instead of joining up with Jurgen Klopp.

Not only have personal terms been agreed, but Southampton have accepted a £58m package from Chelsea for the 19-year-old, and a medical is due to be carried out in due course, according to David Ornstein from The Athletic.

With Liverpool running out of time and options, the Daily Mail have suggested six midfielders the club is considering, featuring Premier League proven players like Joao Palhinha, Cheick Doucoure, and Kalvin Phillips, as well as the widely-linked Khephren Thuram, young Brazilian midfielder Andre, and Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina.

Perhaps the name gathering the most attention on that list is Doucoure of Crystal Palace. As reported by Miguel Delaney for the Independent, Liverpool are stepping up their efforts to sign the Malian midfielder - who would command a maximum fee of around £60m - and the 23-year-old would be keen on a move to the Reds.

Palhinha is another name being widely discussed, most notably by Sacha Tavolieri who claims that the Portuguese powerhouse remains on Liverpool's transfer list this summer, after previously stating that the Reds were the "most keen" club on a potential deal, and that the Fulham star would cost around €60m (£51.3m).

Elsewhere, according to journalist Graeme Bailey, Liverpool are still keen on Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch, who reportedly wants out of the club due to a lack of game time, and thinks there's a significant role he could play for the Reds.

This claim has been reinforced by Foot Mercato, who have stated Liverpool and Manchester United have reignited their interest in the midfielder, with a departure now being evaluated by Bayern after Gravenberch failed to force his way into Thomas Tuchel's plans.

Finally, Liverpool are willing to pay the release clause to secure Goncalo Inacio from Sporting Lisbon, according to reports from Diario de Noticias.

The centre-half is expected to sign a new deal with his club, but the report suggests the release clause would only rise from £38.5m to £42.9m - which the Reds would be willing to match.
