Richard Hughes and Arne Slot agree SURPRISE January transfer plan
Liverpool know what they want from the winter transfer window. But is it what the fans are hoping for?
Liverpool's 2024 has been absolutely ridiculous, really. It started with Jurgen Klopp announcing he'd be stepping down at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, with the Reds firmly in pursuit of trophies.

Then injuries struck, forcing Liverpool to rely on youth players for the first two months of the year. It worked, too - they won the EFL Cup and were on course for a quadruple.
Things fell apart, however, and while Liverpool regained their place in the UEFA Champions League, the EFL Cup would be the only silverware. Klopp stepped down and Arne Slot took over, with most predicting that the team would need to take a step back from competing.
That certainly looked the case over the summer. Liverpool signed just one player for their squad this season - Federico Chiesa. He hasn't had any sort of impact, barely making matchday squads.
Not that Liverpool have faltered. Slot has the Reds dominating both the Premier League and Champions League, sitting proudly atop both to end the calendar year.
There's also the EFL Cup semi-finals against Tottenham Hotspur and the FA Cup campaign should soon kick-off. Quadruple?
So as this mad year comes to a close, what's expected in 2025? The year kicks off with the January transfer window, of course - and here's what the Reds are planning.
Liverpool set January transfer plan
Anfield Watch understands that Liverpool have no intention of selling any players in January. That's despite the likes of Wataru Endo, Tyler Morton and Chiesa being linked with departures.
But Richard Hughes and Slot want to keep this squad intact. Our information is that 'crazy' offers would be considered, of course, but Liverpool will not attempt to move anyone on.
And that has a consequence. Liverpool's squad is quite full at the moment, with cover in every position. If no one leaves as planned, it's also highly improbable that anyone will arrive.
The overall plan, then, is for Liverpool to stick with what they've got. It was the result of the summer, of course, and they'll see it through to the end of the season.
It is, admittedly, a bit of a surprise. There are players in the squad, like Endo, who Slot rarely turns to. There are question marks over his faith in Jarell Quansah and Kostas Tsimikas, too. There's still not truly natural cover for Mo Salah.
But it appears Liverpool are happy with what they have.
Now, plans can change. That's important to remember and if the right player - like any mountain-loving Basque midfielders - decides they'd really like to play for Liverpool and are available at a good price, the club could move.
As things stand, however, there's no push for a January signing. No ins, no outs - that's the plan.
