Alexander-Arnold so easily could have been a Liverpool legend. But instead he will leave as a villain, making the move to Real Madrid in a move that now seems to be very near.
As Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah both make their commitment to the club, the silence around Alexander-Arnold's future is deafening.
If he would have wanted to extend he will have signed his new deal by now. The fact that he hasn't simply means he has set his eyes on Real Madrid.

Liverpool identify Oscar Mingueza as Trent Alexander-Arnold's replacement and why he's perfect
According to Todo Fichajes, Liverpool have identified Oscar Mingueza as the primary candidate to replace Alexander-Arnold. Fichajes meanwhile has reported that Liverpool have already made contact with the Spanish defender who would cost the Reds only €20m.
This makes him an absolute bargain and that is one of the factors why Mingueza is the perfect option for Liverpool. But it's not the only one.
The truth is that Liverpool already have a replacement ready for Alexander-Arnold in Conor Bradley. He is going to be the first choice when the England international departs in the summer.
What Liverpool need is a back-up and Mingueza is the perfect back-up.
Primarily, because as well as being able to play the right-back role really effectively, particularly penetrating those forward lines from deep in a similar fashion to Alexander-Arnold, he's also a very versatile player.
The 25-year-old can play as a midfielder, a wing-back including as a left-back as well and as a centre-back. He came through the La Masia academy which means he has excellent technical skills and he mostly played as a centre-back during his time at Barcelona.
Liverpool need reinforcements in that area as well which makes Mingueza simply the perfect option especially at that €20m price tag.
He's really hard to refuse at that fee considering he has nine goal contributions already this season in La Liga and his versatility makes him pretty much the perfect squad player - like the defender version of James Milner.
