Liverpool will regret letting an incredible midfield talent simply join Manchester City. One for Richard Hughes to sort out.

Liverpool have a lot of business to get through this summer as they look to rebuild. Though it still feels quite bizarre that they're planning a rebuild while marching towards the Premier League title.

What a statement that is.

But it does make sense. Liverpool face question marks in just about every area of the pitch, after all.

Who will be the goalkeeper next season? Are Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold staying? Who will be the new no.9? Will Ibrahima Konate enter the final year of his contract, re-sign or be sold? Who's the new left-back?

Then there's midfield, which is a particularly interesting area. After all, Liverpool weren't happy with their options ahead of this season.

They tried to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, only for the deal to fall apart at the death. That on its own suggests there's room for someone new.

Especially as Wataru Endo and Harvey Elliott are both linked with moves away. Liverpool may need to move for someone new - but one of their best possible options could be off to Manchester City.

Hugo Larsson is a wanted man

Liverpool have been consistently linked with Hugo Larsson for some time now, with the 20-year-old having impressed across last season. He's followed that with another stellar campaign that has Europe's elite lining up to sign him.

Eintracht Frankfurt are likely to sell, of course. It's what they do - they find elite talents across Europe, develop them and then sell for a massive profit.

They did it with Omar Marmoush last January and are expected to do it with Hugo Ekitike this summer. Larsson is another who could move for a massive profit.

Florian Plettenberg suggests Liverpool are still very much interested in Larsson, too. The Sky Germany journalist believes he could move this summer for €60m - but there's a problem.

Man City are very interested and Larsson is receptive. He's described as 'keen' on that interest, suggesting he's happy to follow Marmoush to Manchester.

Liverpool will regret simply letting Larsson head there, though. Beating City in a transfer race is incredibly difficult, of course, but the Reds should do what they can to sway Larsson the other way.

He's one of the biggest midfield talents around and exactly the kind of player who could develop alongside the likes of Ryan Gravenberch to build a future-proof midfield. We imagine that €60m price-tag will look like a steal down the line.

Now, Liverpool have a lot of plates to spin right now and the midfield isn't top of that list. Larsson, though, feels like the kind of talent you change your plans for.

Maybe he ends up at City regardless, but Liverpool will regret not giving it their all here.
