Liverpool transfer news: Reds continue to show 'keen interest' in playmaker

Liverpool retain their interest in one of Europe’s brightest prospects. There will be a race to get him, however.

Journalist Artur Petrosyan claims on Twitter/X that Liverpool's interest in Georgiy Sudakov remains strong. In fact, he describes them as 'keen' to land the Ukranian.

"Liverpool are showing keen interest in one of Ukraine's brightest talents, Georgiy Sudakov," said Petrosyan.

"The Reds' scouts have been attentively tracking the 21-year-old central midfielder over the past year, and there's little doubt that they are pleased with the majority of his performances. Juventus and Arsenal are also in the race to secure his services."

The journalist also explained that Shakhtar Donetsk have already rejected a sizeable bid for their top talent.

"In January, Shakhtar CEO Sergey Palkin disclosed that they had turned down a €40m offer from Napoli for his signature," he said. "He also expressed confidence that Sudakov will soon be playing for one of Europe's top clubs"

Sudakov, a 21-year-old playmaker, has three goals and one assist this season. It was his previous campaign that really caught the eye, though, as he bagged five goals and seven assists.

Liverpool like Georgiy Sudakov

This all follows on from Calciomercato repeatedly claiming that Liverpool hold a strong interest in Sudakov. They went as far as claiming that the Reds were the only club to actually come close to signing the player.

Now, it's hard to tell how true that is but Liverpool were certainly signing midfielders last summer. It's very possible, then, that a move for Sudakov was lined up only for the Reds to change targets to Ryan Gravenberch.

As things stand, though, it's difficult to see how Liverpool go back in for the Ukrainian. Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, and Harvey Elliott all play similar roles. Bobby Clark is coming through in the position, too, making Sudakov an unnecessary signing.

Of course, that changes if Liverpool believe his potential is off the charts - that's essentially the only way a deal makes sense. And maybe they do, in which case Sudakov is one to watch this summer.

He's almost certainly off somewhere and Liverpool may struggle to accept him heading anywhere else.
