Liverpool transfer news: Reds aren't £50m midfielder's first choice

Liverpool may need to up their offer if they’re to persuade Teun Koopmeiners to join them this summer. He currently likes another bid better.

Corriere dello Sport reports that Teun Koopmeiners has a big decision to make this summer. He's expected to leave Atalanta, with multiple clubs hoping to snap him up.

This report focuses on one club - Juventus. The Old Lady are looking to rebuild in 2024 after falling behind in the Serie A title picture and Koopmeiners is at the top of their shortlist.

He could be the new jewel in the crown there and it's something that apparently appeals to him greatly. So much so, in fact, that he could reject the chance to join Liverpool in order to move to Juventus.

Instead of being a 'great amongst greats' at Anfield, Koopmeiners could be the star of the Juventus side. It's that feeling - one described here as particularly strong - that could sway his summer decision.

And if this report is correct, he's leaning towards Juventus over Liverpool.

Teun Koopmeiners could reject Liverpool

Of course, there's a long way to go here. Liverpool won't have actually made any significant summer plans, for one, as they only appointed Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes in the last two weeks.

It's those two who will make things happen this summer - and Hughes doesn't even officially start work until June 1st.

Liverpool are also working with the disadvantage of no one knowing who the manager will be next season. It's difficult to sell a player on a project without that information. Hopefully, that can be sorted out relatively quickly.

However, even finding a new manager won't change the fact that Koopmeiners would not arrive as the key player in Liverpool's team. That's just not possible and if he wants that feeling and status, Juventus will certainly be a far better option.
