Liverpool's big summer rebuild has climbed over £200m. The Reds have grand plans but they won't come cheap.

Liverpool have a lot to do this summer but they're not even sure how much there is to do. A lot of it relies on the outcomes of the big three contract situations.

It does appear that Trent Alexander-Arnold is off, so at least that one's clear. Liverpool will need a new right-back and to invest in ways to replace his passing.

But Virgil van Dijk? Mo Salah? Both would require a massive investment to replace and that could be the case this summer.

Liverpool, though, aren't done there. They want a new no.9 and a new left-back regardless of what happens with the contracts.

They're chasing a new centre-back on top of that as Ibrahima Konate's future is in doubt. The Frenchman's contract enters the final year this July.

It's going to cost a lot of money and even before everything is sorted, it's a rebuild that will cost over £200m. It may climb much higher still.

Liverpool's expensive rebuild

The big summer target is Alexander Isak as a new no.9. He'd replace Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota as the star centre-forward and won't come cheap.

There's talk of £150m for Isak after another stellar campaign for Newcastle United. 19 goals this season, 21 goals last season, an all-around game that would fit any team and right in his prime years.

Those players are going to cost a fortune.

Only Liverpool want more than Isak. They're also chasing Milos Kerkez, and The Times believes he'd cost £45m.

Together, the Reds are paying just shy of £200m for their first-choice targets in two areas. And we haven't even got to right-back and centre-back.

Part of the problem here is that Alexander-Arnold is set to leave on a free transfer. Liverpool will then need to replace him but do so without any incoming cash.

That strips money from other areas - the last thing the Reds need with such a major rebuild.

£200m and counting, then. Liverpool head into a transfer window unlike anything they've experienced before - let's see if they can get it right.

And that it's all worth it.
