Liverpool denied Real Madrid’s approach to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of the January transfer window opening on Wednesday.

It was reported by several outlets - including The Times - that Madrid attempted to enter into talks with the Reds over acquiring Trent this winter.

However, the discussions never even made it to the numbers stage with Liverpool dismissing those efforts out of hand. Spanish sources have since claimed that Madrid were only prepared to offer €10 million this January for Trent but could end up going as high as €15m.

Liverpool don’t feel the equation works out with several prizes to be disputed between now and the end of the season.

Real to CUT Liverpool out of Trent talks

That was followed by warnings from the Spanish capital that Madrid would be back before the February 3 transfer deadline in an attempt to convince Liverpool to sell up. But now it appears the 15-time European champions are taking a new approach when it comes to Trent.

With Liverpool unwilling to do business, Los Blancos are ready to cut Liverpool out of the picture.

TBR Football is reporting that Madrid will send an OFFICIAL contract offer to Trent Alexander-Arnold in the coming days with Liverpool powerless to prevent it.

Having declined negotiations, the Reds are vulnerable to approaches from overseas clubs for Trent, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. And now it appears that Madrid have made the first move.

The report states that the transfer approach was sanctioned by chief scout Juni Calafat, who is seeking a replacement for the injured Dani Carvajal at right-back. The idea was originally thought up by club president Florentino Perez but those efforts came to nothing.

Trent is seen as the ideal candidate with the 26-year-old at the peak of his powers and among the world’s best in the position. Real, according to the report, are also hoping to add Alphonso Davies to the ranks next summer in a new-look backline.

There is little for Liverpool to do other than brace themselves for approaches with no indication as yet as to what Trent plans to do in his long-term future.
