Liverpool almost always lose those races, however. Real Madrid's squad is now littered with players the Reds tried to sign but ultimately missed out on.

Eder Militao, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo Goes, Kylian Mbappe...

And everyone expects that list to include Trent Alexander-Arnold next season. The Scouser's contract expires at the end of this term and it looks increasingly unlikely that he renews it.

Fabrizio Romano is among those claiming that a formal offer from Real Madrid has been put to Alexander-Arnold and he's expected to sign it. That will be a tough one to take.

But there is a little bit of light here. One report suggests Liverpool could be in a strong position to finally win a transfer battle with Real Madrid.

Dean Huijsen and Liverpool

Liverpool have been consistently linked with Dean Huijsen this season. The Reds clearly like the Bournemouth defender and view him as a future star.

In fact, they've been looking at him for a long time now - there were strong links from Italy last season. But his ÂŁ50m release clause makes a move very possible in 2025 and now he has the Premier League success to back up the high price.

Naturally, Liverpool aren't the only club that sees that. Manchester United and Chelsea both want Huijsen but the Reds will fancy their chances of winning a race with them, given the current state of the three clubs.

A trickier contender is Real Madrid. AS reports on their interest in Huijsen and that the player is apparently a 'Madridista'. They don't offer too much to back that claim up, however.

More interestingly, they say that the timing is off for Real Madrid on this one. They'd love to sign Huijsen but would prefer this to happen in 2026.

Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba's contracts expire next year, opening up space to sign Huijsen. Without that space, Real Madrid don't have as much flexibility as they'd like.

That leaves the door open wide for Liverpool, who are currently in line to have plenty of space and cash to sign the player. This might just be the first time in a long time that the Reds beat Real Madrid in a transfer race.

Fingers crossed, anyway.

He may well sign for LFC and go to Madrid once he's had champions league experience with us and proved his quality
