Real Madrid repeat PAINFUL transfer win over Liverpool

It's happened again - Real Madrid are truly Liverpool's nemesis when it comes to the transfer market.

Liverpool have a truly awful record when coming up against Real Madrid in the transfer market. They essentially never get one over on Los Blancos in any battle for a player.

Of course, the most notable battle right now is for one of the Reds' own players. Real Madrid want to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold and put in a bid as their last act of 2024.

Liverpool rejected that bid, hoping this could actually be a time when a player opts to play for them and not fall for the idea of being a Galactico. We'll see on that.

Because the player usually picks the latter. Kylian Mbappe did, for instance - Liverpool chased him for some time.

Jude Bellingham was the star before that. It even looked like he might join the Reds at one point. Aurelien Tchouameni has publicly admitted he picked Madrid over Liverpool.

“The first to come forward was Liverpool, we had discussions. Then Real arrived,” the Frenchman told Le Parisien in 2022.

Rodrygo Goes is an interesting one. Liverpool tried to sign him well before Real Madrid, only for Santos to decide he was worth another year of development there before selling.

Elano was a coach at Santos back in 2017 when Liverpool put in a bid for Rodrygo.

“‘You can’t sell him. If you sell him, I’m out,’” Elano says he told the president, per the Guardian. “‘What is €3m nowadays? Nothing!’

“He wanted to sell Rodrygo but I insisted and he got my point and stopped the negotiations for him."

Even Endrick was linked quite strongly with a move to Liverpool before Real Madrid offered a massive amount for him. His agent admitted earlier this year, per the Telegraph, that the Reds were in the group hoping to get the young striker.

As you can see, it's a long list - and guess what?! It's getting longer.

Martin Zubimendi wants Real Madrid

Liverpool pushed hard to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in the summer. Everything was agreed for a transfer and he was on his way - but then, at the last season, Zubimendi changed his mind.

He didn't want to leave Sociedad. The midfielder remained in Spain and Liverpool were left trying to convert Ryan Gravenberch into a similar player (which, magically, they have done).

But now Zubimendi is finally open to leaving Sociedad and that could mean a move to Liverpool, finally. Only, Relovo claims it's happened again.

They're saying the old Real Madrid party trick is back and that Zubimendi now has his heart set on a move to the European champions. If they're correct he'll be yet another to add to the list above.

There could be a silver lining, mind. We wonder if Liverpool will use Zubimendi's impending move to Real Madrid as a way to sign one of those players who previously rejected them: Tchouameni.

And maybe that's how you win here. Play the long game. Not everyone gets to live the Real Madrid dream forever, after all.
