Liverpool and Real Madrid in AGREEMENT over Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool and Real Madrid see eye to eye over Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Scouser is out of contract next summer.

We are under two months - well under, actually - from Trent Alexander-Arnold being able to agree a move with a non-English club. His contract expires in June, meaning a pre-contract agreement is on the horizon.

No prizes for guessing where he might go. Real Madrid have been courting Alexander-Arnold since March and show no signs of letting up.

In fact, Marca report that both Liverpool and Real Madrid are in agreement that Alexander-Arnold will not renew his contract at Anfield.

They're both expecting him to depart next year, with the only question being whether Madrid can convince Liverpool to sell in January.

Liverpool's major decision

So should Liverpool just let him go? Some money in January is clearly better than no money at the end of the season.

But we're not sure it's actually that simple. At the end of the day, Real Madrid want to pay that money because the fee is valued lower than what they value six months of Alexander-Arnold at.

They believe any small fee is worth it because their chances of winning the Champions League increase with the Scouser. And they're right - but it's exactly the same for Liverpool.

The Reds have a better chance of delivering Europe's top prize with him in the team. The improved prize money would almost certainly be above the transfer fee, even if Liverpool get through one extra round in Europe.

So no, we can't see any reason to sell. Liverpool may believe Alexander-Arnold is off - but he'll be off in the summer, not the winter.
