Liverpool’s January transfer window has been relatively quiet.

Aside from a couple of loan outgoings - and Marcelo Pitaluga’s move to Fluminense - there has been precious little to speak of.

There has been no movement on contracts for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah or Virgil van Dijk. Nor have Liverpool managed to sign a new player during the winter window either.

That could all change as the final days of the January window commence and the Reds are reported to be monitoring several talents.

Liverpool haven’t always been the most active in the January window in recent seasons although the signings of Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo demonstrate the FSG are prepared to get deals done when they spot an opportunity.

And in order to solidify their Premier League title charge - as well as push on in the Champions League - sporting director Richard Hughes would be well advised to get one intriguing deal over the line before the February 3 deadline.

Bayern want Cherki in summer

Rayan Cherki put plenty of European teams on alert when it was revealed that he had a gentleman’s agreement with Lyon that he could leave this winter for €22m (£19m).

Liverpool are known to be keen on the 21-year-old attacker, whose versatility across the frontline would bolster Arne Slot’s squad.

However, it has also been reported that Fenerbahce have opened talks with the mercurial playmaker over a move.

Not only that but Bayern Munich have also registered their interest amid uncertainty over the futures of Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane.

But Liverpool retain ONE key advantage over the Bavarians which simply must be pressed home before the window closes.

“Bayern have Rayan Cherki on their shortlist. The club is interested in the player,” Bild journalist Christian Falk told Caught Offside.

“Lyon would be prepared to sell him in the winter for around €22m, but FC Bayern does not want to make a deal in January; Cherki is looking like a stronger candidate for the summer.

“The two clubs have a good relationship in part because Michael Gerlinger – who previously worked with Bayern for 18 years – is now the Global Football Director of the Eagle Football Holdings group, of which Olympique Lyonnais is a part.”

That means Liverpool must put everything else aside and do a deal for Cherki in the immediate future in order to stave off Bayern’s interest in summer.

Cherki is available for a knockdown fee due to Lyon’s catastrophic financial outlook, which could see them relegated to Ligue 2.
