Liverpool have a clear and available path to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

Liverpool reportedly want to sign Alexander Isak this summer. It would be a monumental transfer for the Reds - their record, in fact.

The reported fee is around £150m, which doubles Virgil van Dijk's arrival from Southampton back in 2018. Darwin Nunez's deal from Benfica may eclipse the Van Dijk transfer through add-ons - but no one seems certain what the add-ons are exactly.

So as things stand, Liverpool's push to get Isak would double their transfer record. That's quite the thing - and is he actually worth that?

Liverpool appear to believe so or they wouldn't entertain a transfer. Isak's efforts in the Premier League this season have certainly been brilliant enough to make him an elite target for any club, let alone one attempting to redesign and overhaul their attack.

And Liverpool seem to have a clear pathway to signing the player. Isak to Liverpool really might be 'on'.

Alexander Isak to Liverpool

The Athletic has given a brilliant overview of Liverpool's finances in light of their books for the 2023/24 season. It's an interesting year for the Reds, given they weren't in the UEFA Champions League and gave a massive pay-off to Jurgen Klopp and his staff.

Despite that, Liverpool actually had £73m of room to meet the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules. That's money they absolutely did not spend last summer - the Reds actually made a comfortable profit from their deals.

The article goes on to explain that Liverpool could lose £75m this season and still fall within the acceptable PSR range. Only, they almost certainly won't lose £75m - they're actually expected to make a healthy profit.

That opens the door wide for a deal like Isak's. Especially as Liverpool are also expected to sell Darwin Nunez in the summer.

There was an offer from Saudi Arabia for around £70m back in January and the hope is that something similar arrives once this season is done. That alone would leave Liverpool able to meet Isak's asking price without any PSR concerns and if all they managed this season was to break even.

Only, they'll likely make a profit and sell more players this summer. In other words, that Isak asking price is absolutely within reach for Liverpool.

The path for the Swede to be the Reds' new no.9 is there. Whether he eventually walks it is another matter, of course, but the finances certainly stack up.
