Liverpool are reportedly looking at a replacement for Mo Salah. The Egyptian's contract is expiring in June.

Mo Salah can agree a deal with a non-English club in exactly four weeks. Liverpool are currently letting his contract expire and that understandably has people wondering what on earth is going on.

Salah is arguably, after all, the best player on the planet right now. No one in the Premier League can match him, certainly, and he's currently leading his team to the top of the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

And yet, unless something changes, he'll leave for free. Liverpool will face a lot of scrutiny if he's not re-signed and there will be an incredible amount of pressure on whoever replaces him.

But who might that be?

Liverpool want Marcus Thuram

Calciomercato.it claim that Marcus Thuram sits at the top of Liverpool's shortlist. Now, they're not the first to say this.

The suggestion is that Liverpool are open to paying his £70m release clause. They like him a lot and have done for a while now.

The Reds wouldn't have a problem meeting his wages, either, and it's very much a deal that could happen. If Salah leaves.

But honestly, we're not sold on this one. It's the third report out of Italy claiming it but we're not sure it makes much sense.

Thuram is 27 now and not on Salah's level, if we're brutally honest. He's a completely different type of player, too, and it's unclear how he'd plug that gap.

At £70m, it feels like a far bigger risk than simply re-signing Salah. So if this were the replacement, we're not sure it's likely to win fans over.
