Liverpool transfer latest: Reds find the one to REPLACE Virgil van Dijk as star refuses new contract

Amid the flurry of attacking players set to leave the club, inevitably some players will have to come in to fill the void.

Who those players could be remains to be seen. The club are definitely drawing up a strong shortlist and Arne Slot has also recently hinted at the type of profile he wants as the club's no.9 going forward.

Amid all of the options there is one player who is just simply a cut above the rest and that player might just be of an ilk that has never really been seen in the Premier League.

Why Hugo Ekitike could be joining Liverpool and why he's not like anyone else

We have already written about why Hugo Ekitike is the club's preferred choice for the no.9 role. He's been linked with a move to Liverpool since breaking through at Reims.

Since then, he has made a big money move to Paris Saint Germain, which didn't quite work out, but he's bounced back since joining Frankfurt on loan and he's in great form this season.

Ekitike has already made 23 goal contributions in 31 matches this season. He's both a goal-scorer and a facilitator who can play out wide and as a central forward.

But what is the most interesting thing about his profile is the way he moves so freely. A long limbed forward, Ekitike has exquisite technique.

He glides past players with ease and thrives in one vs one situations. Some of his close control and first touches are like that of a Brazilian freestyler. They are up there with Roberto Firmino at his peak.

Yet, Ekitike is more than just that. He's got the tall frame to bully defenders, the speed to leave his opponents chasing shadows and the finishing instinct to put the ball into the back of the net.

All of that makes him an incredibly unique profile. The kind of profile the Premier League has probably never had before. What is frightening is that he is still only 22-years-old with so much time to improve and get even better.

It's no wonder he is getting comparisons to Victor Wembenyama's impact in the NBA as per the post below.

Wembanyama is a generational player and Ekitike is absolutely the same. Paris Saint Germain discarded an absolute gem.

Just as Borussia Dortmund had once discarded Alexander Isak or Chelsea Mohamed Salah.

Ekitike has the potential to follow in the footsteps of those Premier League icons at the moment. He's got everything needed to succeed and his arrival could have a transformational impact on Liverpool.

Undoubtedly, the club's scouts who have watched him break onto the scene as a teenager at Reims will be well aware of this as well.
