Liverpool transfer news: Reds' interest in Pedro Neto just refuses to go away
Liverpool’s interest in one 9-assist Premier League winger just refuses to go away. The Reds retain their long-held liking of the player.
HITC reports that Liverpool still retain an interest in Wolves winger Pedro Neto. They're joined in that by several Premier League clubs, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United all keeping tabs on the 24-year-old.
Neto was fantastic at times last season, averaging an assist every other game in the Premier League (0.53 per 90, to be exact). Only Kevin De Bruyne could boast a better rate than that.
The problem was that Neto didn't actually play that often. He featured just 20 times, starting 18 of those. In other words, Neto started under half of Wolves' Premier League fixtures.
That was down to injuries, which have plagued Neto for years now. Last season was actually the most he's played since 2020/21 when the Portuguese winger started in 30 games.
Since then, it's been five, 13 and 18 starts - not a great return. But the lack of game time doesn't appear to be putting off the Premier League giants and Liverpool supposedly still like the idea of signing Neto.
Liverpool like Pedro Neto
Neto is unquestionably a brilliant talent and one of the Premier League's best wingers. He just rarely plays.
So the fact that Wolves want £60m for him will surely end any chance that he joins Liverpool this summer. The probable return, given his injury issues, wouldn't be anywhere near that kind of value.
Especially as Liverpool are actually well-stocked on the left wing right now. So much so that even a move for Anthony Gordon would be hard to justify and he's a far more exciting prospect there.
So we can't see any way that Liverpool justify signing Neto. Even if someone like Luis Diaz did leave the club, we imagine they'd move for a more reliable player to replace him, especially as the Reds' own injury problems last season.
