That's a decision he might come to regret considering how brightly Marmoush has started his career in a City shirt. His hat-trick against Newcastle United in just his fifth appearance for the club means he has now well and truly arrived in the Premier League.
Liverpool meanwhile are now left looking at alternative options ahead of a big summer.
Anfield Watch revealed exclusively that the Reds are prepared to overhaul their attack with Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Luiz Diaz all ready to be sold by the club.
That means Liverpool will be looking to bring in more attackers, and that could see them attempt to sign the next Omar Marmoush.
Why Liverpool can strike an €80m agreement for Hugo Ekitike
We have written about why Hugo Ekitike who has been on Liverpool's radar since breaking through at Reims could be the perfect option for the Reds.
Ekitike has been tasked with replacing Marmoush's impact at Eintracht Frankfurt since the Egyptian's departure to Manchester City and so far the young French forward is proving he can be the next big thing from the German side's impressive forward production line.
Since Marmoush's departure, Ekitike has scored five goals in six matches and has really stepped up to become the main talisman for his side.
Undoubtedly, that kind of form will continue to attract Liverpool's attention, and one report has suggested that there is a deal to be had in the summer transfer window.
According to Sports Bild while Frankfurt do not want to sell Ekitike this year, they have set a price tag of €80m for any interested parties.
This figure is £67m in total and it's good news for Liverpool. The fact that Frankfurt have put a price tag on him would suggest that they are open to doing a deal, otherwise they would have made him untouchable.
This opens up a golden chance for Richard Hughes to strike a simple deal. At the end of the day in today's market that kind of figure is not an extortionate amount.
Especially not for someone of Ekitike's ilk. The Frenchman oozes quality and has the potential to be a transformative arrival in the Premier League.
