Liverpool move one step closer to SIGNING Omar Marmoush

Liverpool's attack is in need of some TLC and the club may be looking in the transfer market for new personnel.

While doing so, one of their targets may have just become that bit more accessible after a new breakthrough has emerged.

While Mohamed Salah leads the attacking line, the others are firmly under the microscope as to whether they can truly succeed in a Liverpool shirt.

Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz are operating on the left wing, competing for minutes, but for most of this season, they have managed to dovetail their form, so Liverpool don't end up with a goal drought - although their form is increasingly under scrutiny.

Meanwhile, Diogo Jota is only recently back from injury, and in his place Darwin Nunez has had a torrid time of late, finding it really difficult to score goals and impact the game in a positive way.

As such, Liverpool are on the hunt for someone new to freshen up their attack, and as Anfield Watch exclusively revealed earlier this month, their main target is Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Breakthrough in Marmoush talks

Talks have already begun with Marmoush, and while Liverpool are keen to sign him as early as this January transfer window, David Ornstein at The Athletic reports that he is likely to leave Germany in the summer.

The 25-year-old is in fine form for Frankfurt, scoring 17 goals and earning nine assists so far this season, across all competitions.

During the international breaks, Marmoush plays alongside Salah in the Egyptian national team, and his performances for his country have been just as impressive.

If Liverpool are successful in tying Salah down to a new contract, in order to secure his services next season, then Liverpool would have one hell of a partnership on their hands, should Marmoush want the move.

However, Liverpool are not the only team in for the young striker, with Bayern Munich also heavily linked - which could prove problematic given the German giants' reputation buying talents in the Bundesliga.

But, according to Sportbild, Bayern may walk away from the move in order to prioritise someone else who would be happier playing as Harry Kane's understudy.

Their report said: “Frankfurt's Omar Marmoush (25), Viktor Gyökeres (26) from Sporting Lisbon and Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko (21) and Loïs Openda (24) are on the list. However, the transfer fees would be enormous for an attacker who is at risk of being benched because of Kane.

"The search is now all the more intense for a striker who would accept the role. One candidate is Jonathan David (24). The Canadian from Lille will be available on a free transfer in the summer.”

For reference, Sportbild considers a realistic fee for Marmoush to be £42m, so while he might prove to be too expensive for Bayern as a back-up option, his price would not necessarily be an 'enormous' fee for Liverpool, given how important a new striker might be to Arne Slot's team, should his current options show no sign of turning around their poor form.

Jota's injury record is proving to be problematic for his long-term future at Liverpool and Nunez looks increasingly like a failed project, where the club simply took a gamble on a small sample size of success that has yet to come to fruition.

When you break down how Liverpool's attack operates, it is clear that Salah is the centrepiece. At first, the other players were chipping in with the other contributions, but recently, it seems as though the Egyptian is our only hope in games.

Knowing how close Marmoush and Salah are, bringing their partnership for their national team to Merseyside could be an invaluable investment for the Reds' progression under Arne Slot.
