Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Slot’s early success with the Reds is the fact that only one player has been added to the first team squad since his arrival, Federico Chiesa, who has failed to make a notable impact.

Liverpool’s new boss has done well so far, but he will want to bring in more players who are especially suited to his style of play, and he could now miss out on a striker that would fit his blueprint perfectly.

Liverpool to miss out on perfect Slot striker

It is no secret that big change is coming this summer at Anfield, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract in less than five months and Anfield Watch exclusively revealed that a number of the Reds' attacking players could be set to leave this summer too.

There has been much speculation over who Liverpool’s next striker could be, and one man that seems to fit Slot’s criteria to a tee is Neyser Villarreal.

Anfield Watch exclusively revealed that Liverpool were exploring the availability of the 19-year-old, with his contract set to expire at the end of 2025.

Now, according to multiple reports, the Colombian prodigy could be on the move but Liverpool look set to miss out.

There are conflicting reports around the striker’s future, with Gol Caracol reporting the 19-year-old has been ‘promised’ to Porto when his contract expires. Footboom are reporting that Watford lead the race for the teenager however, and that clubs in Brazil remain interested in the Millonarios wonderkid.

Why Liverpool could miss out

Although his future is yet to be decided, it is probable that teams such as Porto and Watford – as well as teams in South America – would be able to guarantee Villarreal playing time, something that the Reds cannot necessarily offer.

It is unlikely that Villarreal would walk straight into Liverpool’s starting XI and, with the club reportedly interested in a number of Premier League proven strikers including Alexander Isak and Joao Pedro, his path to the first team is uncertain.

An Anfield move may not be imminent for Villarreal, but the fact remains that he is a quality forward who would fit Slot’s system well. Even if Liverpool miss out this time, Neyser Villarreal is a name to remember.
